Assistant Principal / Athletic Director FY27 Job Description

11‑month position

Assistant Principal / Athletic Director - Middle School/High School

Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting the principal with leadership, supervision, student discipline, operations and accountability at the middle and high school, while also overseeing and coordinating the school’s athletic programs to ensure alignment with district goals, student development, and compliance requirements.

Instructional Leadership & School Operations

Serve as an instructional leader by monitoring implementation of professional development in classrooms

Implement and monitor school‑wide behavioral expectations and policies including monitoring attendance trends and overseeing truancy interventions.

Address safety and welfare issues by holding meetings with parents, investigating incidents, documenting findings, contacting proper authorities and conforming to legal requirements and regulations.

Create partnerships with parents and community.

Implement instructional and assessment strategies by attending meetings, facilitating discussions among teachers and staff, and working with the principal and district personnel to plan professional development.

Address building management concerns by working with the custodial staff, office staff, teachers, and district staff including implementing school‑wide safety and emergency protocols.

Coordinate and monitor duty coverage.

Assist with the development of a master schedule.

Assist with new teacher orientation

Athletic Director Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversight for all middle and high school athletic programs

Supervise and evaluate coaches, including hiring recommendations, PD, and performance management.

Ensure compliance with all applicable AIA, district policies, and eligibility requirements.

Coordinate athletic schedules, transportation, officials, and facilities for all athletic events.

Oversee athletic budgets, purchasing, and inventory of equipment and uniforms.

Promote sportsmanship, student‑athlete well‑being, and academic accountability for all participants.

Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and administration to monitor student‑athlete academic eligibility.

Organize and supervise home athletic events, including safety protocols, and game operations.

Develop and maintain relationships with parents and community partners to support athletic programs.

Assist with coverage of athletic events and after‑school activities.

Coordinate communication for athletic programs including schedules, updates, and recognition of student‑athlete achievements.
