Essential functions (job duties): JOBPURPOSE

TheMultimedia Communications Specialist supports the creation of high-qualityvideo and multimedia content that aids with fundraising, donor engagement, andstrategic communications initiatives. Working in close partnership withDevelopment & Alumni Affairs (DAA) and University Communications andMarketing (UCAM), this role produces compelling, informative, and inspirationalcontent that advances Wayne State University’s mission, priorities, and values.The position reports to the Associate Director of Multimedia within UCAM.

EssentialFunctions

Developcompelling video and multimedia content through interviews with faculty,students, donors, and staff. Capture and curate high-quality B-roll footageto support storytelling and fundraising initiatives for individuals,corporations, and foundations. Produce persuasive and mission-drivenmultimedia assets for use across fundraising and communication platforms.

Managemultiple concurrent development and multimedia projects from concept throughfinal delivery. Serve as a camera operator or fulfill other production roleson switched shoots, as assigned.

Partnerwith colleagues across academic units, donor and alumni relations, and otheruniversity departments to align Multimedia content with institutionalmarketing and fundraising goals. Contribute to initiatives that supportaggressive fundraising targets, including comprehensive campaigns.

Maintainthe Multimedia equipment room, including inventory tracking and routinemaintenance. Set up, test, and troubleshoot video and audio equipment toensure production readiness.

Upload,organize, and classify video clips and images within the internal officearchive system and the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system to supportefficient retrieval and long-term use.

Independentlylearn new software, tools, and production techniques to advance technicalexpertise. Assist with training and knowledge-sharing for subordinate orjunior staff as needed.

Performother duties as assigned in support of departmental and universityobjectives.

Qualifications: MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in video production, communications, or a related field.

Experience:

Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)

Experience in higher education or nonprofit fundraising environments is strongly preferred.

Demonstrates expertise using professional Sony video cameras.

Strong editing experience using Final Cut Pro X and/or DaVinci Resolve.

Proven research, interviewing, and storytelling skills.

Solid understanding of fundraising, stewardship processes, and donor communications.

Experience with complementary communication disciplines such as graphic design, web content, and social media is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Planning and Organization: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate maturity, sound judgment, and strong time-management skills.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in recording high-quality audio and video for interviews and presentations. Skilled in lighting techniques and the effective use of B-roll to enhance storytelling. Advanced knowledge of Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve; familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and After Effects is a plus. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Teams. Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, accessible messages.

Learning Agility: Independent, innovative self-starter who learns quickly and adapts to changing priorities. Demonstrates ability to research unfamiliar topics and close knowledge gaps efficiently.

Teamwork: Proven ability to collaborate across teams to achieve shared goals. Produces high-quality, consistent results while supporting colleagues on complex projects.

WORKINGCONDITIONS

Normal office environment.

Must adhere to divisional confidentiality and data usage policies.

Local travel may be required to film students, donors, events, and B-roll footage.
