AIA Austin is the Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, serving over 1,300 members and 250 Allied Members. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(6). Design Austin (dba of Austin Foundation for Architecture) is the non-profit 501(c)(3) partner of AIA Austin.
Core Responsibilities
Provide outstanding service and ensure a welcoming culture for Members, Allied Members, and visitors
Answer basic questions about benefits and value of AIA membership, services, and programs
Provide member care and customer service responses to frequently asked questions
Advocate for and communicate the importance of design and the work of architects and designers
Promote a positive office culture of mutual respect, and maintain a flexible and collaborative attitude, working with other staff on projects, events, duties, and assignments as required
Attend all major events for both organizations as needed, including board meetings and retreats, various committee events, and any other deemed necessary
Communications Coordinator
The Communications Coordinator coordinates communications between the Chapter, Design Austin, and AIA members, the media, and the public to promote events, membership, and programming including production and distribution of the weekly newsletter, Archi‑Facts, and monthly newsletter, Point Perspective, as well as social media and content for aiaaustin.org and designaustin.org. The Communications Coordinator delivers branding efforts and outreach collateral including Annual Reports, brochures, and signage.
Responsibilities

Produce weekly newsletter, Archi‑Facts, and monthly newsletter, Point Perspective
Schedule and regularly update AIA Austin and Design Austin social media accounts with relevant info, event information, and other topics of interest to members, allied members, and the general public. Creates engaging social media campaigns and generate content for social media channels
Keep websites updated through extensive work in CMS platforms, and interface with our contracted web designer as needed
Create graphics for website, print, and electronic use
Be the keeper of the AIA Austin and Design Austin brand, making sure branding guidelines are in place and adhered to
Maintain communications and email marketing tools, such as Constant Contact, maintaining and regularly updating lists with new member information
Maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to promote our members and events
Create press releases for major events and send to media outlets
Organize and track communications assets such as photography for events and committees
Attend major events to help staff as well as create social media and manages documentation of events with contract photographers
Other Duties
Serve as Staff Liaison to committees as needed
Coordinate Awards submissions for Honor Awards, Design Awards, Homes Tour, and Leadership Collective in our awards platform
Help with major events as needed
Requirements/Qualifications
Experience using graphic design software, including Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
Design acumen with ability to create graphics, decks, programs, and other digital and print-ready materials
Web editing experience, especially WordPress
Social media experience
Marketing experience a plus
Experience working with the media and/or public relations experience a plus
Must be an excellent communicator, with great writing skills and the ability to interface with a variety of personalities
Ability to exercise sound judgment, take responsibility for meeting deadlines, and be a skilled problem solver with the ability to boil down great content from a variety of disparate sources
Not-for-profit or nonprofit association/organization experience a plus
Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail are a must
Team player. Ability to work well with a small but mighty staff team.
Environment
Position requires frequent and regular computer and telephone use. The workplace is a smoke and drug-free environment. Equal opportunity employer. Hours currently are 8:30 to 6pm Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday in‑person in downtown Austin, 8:30am to 6pm Wednesday and 8:30am to noon on Friday remote, with some evening and weekend in‑person hours required.
