Job Title Summer Shelton Challenge Multimedia Communications & Content Internship Department Shelton Leadership Center Location Raleigh, NC Employment Type Temporary Appointment Length May 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026 (flexible start date) Is Time Limited Yes Essential Job Duties The Shelton Leadership Center (SLC) is seeking a summer intern to join our programmatic and communications teams to produce compelling and engaging multimedia and digital content. Reporting to the SLC Assistant Director for Communications and Brand Management and the Assistant Director for Pre-College Programs (Director for Shelton Challenge Programs), the Content and Multimedia Intern will serve as a creative bridge between the Shelton Challenge and the SLC brand. This role is responsible for coordinating a strategic content calendar, producing high-impact visual storytelling through photo and video, and ensuring a consistent brand voice across social media and digital platforms. Other Responsibilities Produce and edit high-quality visual content, including weekly graduation recaps, social media Reels, and b-roll libraries using Canva or other editing tools. Assist in managing a seasonal content calendar, ensuring a consistent and engaging brand presence across all social platforms. Produce content for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn considering audience and platform best practices or trends. Organize and maintain a high-volume library of program photos and videos, facilitating timely sharing with families and stakeholders. Coordinate participant photo releases and photo sharing access with participants, families, volunteers, staff and other stakeholders as necessary. Attend Shelton Challenge events and programs to capture program photos, videos and other media. Coordinate with SLC and Shelton Challenge staff to plan and facilitate content needs. Support the development of branded graphics, recruitment emails, or other materials. Collaborate with other Shelby Challenge program interns to support program logistics as needed. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM (with lunch break), Monday – Friday; Times may vary depending on the number of site locations the intern is working. On-site 24/7 during the week of assigned Challenge sessions. Interns must commit to staying on campus in the designated location. About the Shelton Leadership Center The Shelton Leadership Center was founded in 2002 by General Hugh Shelton following his retirement as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His desire to give back to his alma mater NC State University prompted him to initiate a scholarship program. Soon, his efforts grew to include educational programs and organizational development training focused on developing the next generation of values-based leaders. The Shelton Leadership Center’s value-based leadership development programs now reach pre-college, college students, and professionals within multiple settings, including NC State and other higher education institutions, corporations, government entities, non-profits, and youth development organizations. About the Red Hat Shelton Challenge The Shelton Challenge is a six-day, residential program built on the Shelton Leadership Center’s core values–compassion, integrity, belonging, and social responsibility–and is designed to help high school students enhance their capacities to become values-based leaders. This immersive program is designed to transform potential into real-world skills through mentorship, self-reflection, and shared discovery. June 14 – 19, 2026 June 27 – July 2, 2026 July 12 – 17, 2026 Benefits & Expected Learning Outcomes Practice technical skills related to digital content creation/design (Canva/Adobe). Engage with community members on center digital properties while representing the SLC brand. Enhance an understanding of social media content generation and implementation. Develop communication and leadership skills by coordinating student takeovers of social media, and creating captions for social media posts. Other duties as assigned. Required Minimum Experience & Education N/A Required Department Skills Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in a related field (e.g., Business, Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, etc.). Understanding of social media platforms, trends, best practices and tools. Experience using a DSLR camera or other technology used to capture photo and video. Experience working in Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite or other editing software and tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Familiarity with content production, branding or social media best practices is a plus. While not required, experience working within a summer camp setting is beneficial.
