Title: Social Media Specialist
Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications

Salary Range: $45,000.00 - $46,500.00/year
Position Summary: The Social Media Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing the GSMISTS social media strategy to increase brand awareness, strengthen engagement, and drive growth. In alignment with our strategic initiatives, the Social Media Specialist will conduct research, benchmark trends, and messaging while maintaining a unified brand voice across different social media channels to tell the story of what it means to be a Girl Scout in today’s world.
Responsibilities
Execute the GSMISTS social media strategy in alignment with our strategic initiatives through research, benchmark trends, messaging, audience preferences, and collaboration with council departments to develop brand awareness and drive engagement.
Market and communicate the council’s fundraising, special events, membership recruitment, program, and product program efforts in all social media channels.
Gather and analyze monthly data, prepare ROI reports, and understand how to make improvements in future campaigns and optimize ongoing campaigns.
Stay up to date with current technologies, AI, social media trends, design tools, and applications.
Curate content from members, volunteers, and stakeholders by attending outside service unit meetings, GSMISTS events, and local community events to capture live and static content for social media platforms.
Fulfill and track council sponsorship/donor responsibilities as they pertain to social media.
Work closely with the Media Champions, content creation days, and help schedule media appearances.
Monitor, respond to, and engage with followers in a timely and professional manner.
May perform other related duties as assigned to support organizational operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience)
2+ years of professional experience in digital marketing and social media with a focus on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
Strong understanding of social media metrics; ability to interpret the results and take action to increase the effectiveness of social media campaigns
Must be able to work under time constraints with multiple projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills including news releases, articles, and scripts
Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills
Public speaking experience
Proficiency in Microsoft® applications and experience with Adobe Creative Suite®
Driving a council vehicle or a personal vehicle is required. Must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver’s license, and self‑report any vehicle violations
Photo/Editing skills pertaining to Reels
Ability to provide a portfolio that shows your talents and skills
Requirements
Registration as a member of Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore
Willingness to authorize a background screening with the cost being absorbed by the council
Ability to work independently, in person, and with a flexible schedule including after school, evenings, and weekends
Participate in key annual events and meet quarterly with the supervisor to review and assess additional appearance and requests from other departments that pose as a priority to elevating GSMISTS
Ability to travel throughout the service area as the job requires
Capability to provide own transportation and maintain valid operator license
Must be able to occasionally lift or move a minimum of 25 pounds
