Social Media Intern for Student Involvement Student Union – Student Involvement Reports To: Manager for Organizations and Activities The Social Media Intern should have a passion for social media and for connecting with people. They enjoy taking photos, can spot trends before anyone else, and their writing is clever, and casual. The ideal student brings innovative ideas, creative energy and solid content creation skills to help manage our online community. Essential Functions of the Job Account coordination and content development for Student Involvement’s social media accounts including Instagram and TikTok, and leading takeovers on UWM’s accounts. Contributes ideas and executes deadlines on content calendar. Collaborates with Union Marketing, media, video and web teams. Monitors, tracks and responds to social conversations and keywords. Attends and contributes social media posts at campus events. Develops digital communication plans around Student Involvement events and announcements. Assists with social media promotion, training and discussions. Monitors social media trends and explores emerging platforms. Other duties as assigned. Supervision Required No, this position does not supervise others Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Freshman, sophomore, or junior pursuing a degree in journalism, marketing, communications or a related major. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25. Experience and interest with social and digital media. Exhibits passion, adaptability and willingness to learn. Outstanding writing and communication skills. Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Physical Requirements Should be able to perform basic bending, lifting, and moving actions to assist in setting up and decorating spaces for events. Should be able to lift up to 50 lbs. No major extraneous movement required. Working Conditions & Environmental Factors Office hours, admin work, and meetings are held in the Student Involvement wing on the third floor of the Student Union building. Other working locations include major event spaces on campus, including but not limited to, Union Ballroom and Wisconsin Room, Fireside Lounge, Spaights Plaza, or Fountain Courtyard. Some events may require off-campus travel via school bus to various sites in and near the city of Milwaukee. Hours/Scheduling Approximate hours per week: 15-20 hours Part-Time, Temporary 50% typical daytime office/admin hours 50% weeknights and weekends for events Location Hybrid Fully Remote Position of Trust NO - not a Position of Trust YES (POTY) - position has unsupervised access to Property or has Financial/Fiduciary responsibilities. Does not have access to Vulnerable Populations. Communication: This position requires communication via email, Teams, and/or phone call to various student organizations or other campus departments to coordinate collaborations on social media posts. Collaboration: This position requires collaborating effectively on social media posts with other campus units, such as other departments or student organizations. Equity and Inclusion: This position requires appropriate representation of a diverse student population at UWM in pictures chosen to post and promote in our marketing. Professionalism: This position requires communicating with other campus units or student orgs, and it vital to maintain professionalism in this communication. This position also involves creating content for social media posts, a duty which will also require professionalism in order to ensure quality content is being produced and posted to best represent Student Involvement, as well as UWM as a whole. Tech Savviness: This position requires knowledge of and skill related to utilizing a smart phone to capture photos at events, as well as skill related to social media management. Self-Reflective Lifelong Learning: This position requires the student to complete a self-reflection once per semester (twice per year) that invites the student to think about how their position relates to their major and what they are studying. #J-18808-Ljbffr
