
Business Development Specialist

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for organizing and executing a range of marketing and business development initiatives. The Business Development Specialist will take the lead on drafting pitches and proposals, researching clients and competitors, facilitating matter tracking, drafting surveys and award submissions, and coordinating other BD-related tasks as needed in support of the firm’s practices and partners. The Business Development Specialist will report to the Director of Business Development and work with the Business Development & Communications team to facilitate firmwide initiatives in line with best practices.
The Business Development Specialist is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s lawyers, advisors and staff, and while maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and collegiality and a desire for continued improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
Working with the Director of Business Development, assist in the development and implementation of practice group and individual attorney business plans, engaging with attorneys to develop plans, coordinating and tracking data essential to those plans, and following up regularly with the to ensure deadlines are met.
Prepare proposals/RFP responses in coordination with attorneys and director. Track pitches for Mansfield purposes, as well as to assess wins/losses.
Track and maintain office and practice group experience for proposals, directory submissions, and other purposes, and share relevant updates with the team for internal and external communications purposes.
Prepare competitive intelligence reports on existing and prospective clients, as well as competitors in the marketplace.
Draft directory submissions for assigned practices.
Input pitch activity into the firm’s CRM and serve as a back-up for certain CRM functions.
Work with individual attorneys to ensure that BD follow-ups occur following BD-related events.
Ensure that new lateral partners are integrated into ongoing BD efforts at a practice group level and work with marketing technology manager to ensure business contacts are added to CRM.
Maintaining library of pitch responses/off the shelf products for assigned practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent writing and communication skills, including strong grammar, punctuation and spelling skills, and an ability to translate technical and industry-specific information into clear, compelling content.
Strong work ethic and service orientation.
Commitment to professional growth and development.
Ability to prioritize and manage workload, work independently and as a member of teams, and complete tasks under time pressure as necessary.
Ability to maintain poise, tact and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts.
Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential; experience with Adobe InDesign is preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to learn new skills as they become necessary.
Ability to function in a collaborative organization and be a team player.
Enthusiasm and flexibility to work on other activities and projects as needed.
Knowledge of AP Style.
EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a marketing-related field. 5+ years of related marketing/business development experience, preferably in a law firm.
