Position Summary

The Commercial Lines Account Manager is responsible for servicing and managing a diverse portfolio of commercial insurance clients, including small to mid-sized accounts across multiple industries. This role partners closely with Commercial Lines Producers to deliver high-quality client service, manage renewals, market coverage, and ensure accurate policy administration.

The ideal candidate has several years of commercial insurance experience, a solid foundation in coverage knowledge, and the ability to independently manage day-to-day servicing for a variety of accounts while escalating more complex risks or strategic decisions as appropriate. This role is a key part of the agency’s Commercial Lines team and serves as a growth path toward Senior Account Manager or Account Executive responsibilities.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Client Service & Account Management

  • Manage the day-to-day servicing of an assigned book of commercial lines accounts, including small to mid-sized clients across a variety of industries.
  • Serve as a primary service contact for clients, responding to inquiries related to policies, endorsements, certificates, billing, and coverage questions.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients through proactive communication and dependable follow-through.
  • Assist clients with claims reporting and coordinate with carriers and internal teams as needed.


Renewals & Marketing

  • Prepare, market, and manage renewal accounts in accordance with agency workflows and timelines.
  • Gather underwriting information, submit renewal applications, and negotiate with carriers for competitive terms and coverage.
  • Review policies for accuracy and coverage adequacy, identifying potential gaps or concerns for producer review.
  • Support producers with renewal presentations and client meetings when needed.


Policy Administration & Documentation

  • Process policies, endorsements, binders, certificates of insurance, audits, cancellations, and invoices accurately and timely.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and E&O-minded documentation within the agency management system.
  • Follow established standards for file hygiene, activity documentation, and task management.


Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Work collaboratively with producers, senior account managers, and other team members to deliver a consistent client experience.
  • Escalate complex coverage issues or large account concerns to Senior Account Managers or leadership as appropriate.
  • Stay current on carrier guidelines, underwriting appetite, and commercial insurance industry changes.
  • Participate in training, continuing education, and professional development activities.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Active Property & Casualty insurance license (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
  • 3–6 years of commercial insurance account management or related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of core commercial coverages, including general liability, property, commercial auto, workers’ compensation, and umbrella.
  • Experience working in an agency management system and carrier portals; strong technology and automation skills.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines.
  • Professional, client-focused demeanor with a collaborative team mindset.


Preferred Education & Designations

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Progress toward or completion of insurance designations (e.g., CISR, CIC, AAI, CPCU) encouraged.


Career Path

This role is designed as a progression step within the Commercial Lines career path and may advance to Senior Commercial Lines Account Manager or Account Executive based on experience, performance, and business needs.
