Overview

Client Accounting Services (CAS) – Accounting Specialist The CAS Accounting Specialist supports your CAS pod by preparing accurate payroll, sales tax filings, bookkeeping, and monthly financial statements for a portfolio of clients. This role helps ensure timely, high-quality recurring services and contributes directly to the pod’s efficiency, accuracy, and client satisfaction. A successful candidate is detail-oriented, driven, and comfortable working within standardized processes and cloud accounting platforms.

Responsibilities

Payroll Preparation & Processing

Prepare recurring payroll for assigned clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state requirements.

Maintain employee setup, pay rates, deductions, and tax settings.

Assist with payroll adjustments, amendments, and basic troubleshooting.

Communicate with clients to gather payroll-related changes and approvals.

Prepare and file state and local sales tax returns.

Monitor filing deadlines and maintain calendars to ensure timely submission.

Work with clients to collect required sales data and resolve discrepancies.

Record and categorize transactions using Xero and/or QuickBooks Online.

Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.

Maintain accounts payable, accounts receivable, and recurring workflow processes.

Ensure all bookkeeping is completed in alignment with firm policies and schedules.

Monthly Financial Statement Preparation

Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow.

Review results for completeness and identify unusual items requiring clarification.

Assist in preparing periodic client reviews or advisory meetings.

Internal Workflow & Collaboration

Follow standardized workflows, checklists, and documentation practices.

Collaborate closely with your pod members to ensure smooth scheduling and workload management.

Provide timely updates in workflow software and maintain organized digital workpapers.

Requirements

Technical Skills

Experience with Xero and/or QuickBooks Online preferred.

Basic understanding of bookkeeping fundamentals (bank recs, AP/AR, journal entries).

Familiarity with payroll processing concepts.

Comfortable working in cloud-based environments.

Administrative & Software Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent office software.

Ability to learn new applications and firm systems quickly.

Preferred Background

Experience in bookkeeping or accounting support role.

Exposure to multi-client workflows or public-accounting environments.

Payroll or sales tax experience is a plus.
