Overview

Campus Description:

Primary Purpose: Direct and manage the district's athletic program and facilities and instruct and coach students to develop skills and abilities to excel in athletics. Provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all federal, state, UIL, and local requirements. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Experience and Qualifications Summary:

1 year experience as coach or participant in sport assigned. Bachelor’s degree; Valid Texas teaching certificate; Current AED certificate; Texas CDL with P and S endorsements; Special Knowledge/Skills related to athletic program operations, coaching techniques, policies, supervision, data interpretation, budgeting, and communication.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Program Planning and Instruction Establish performance criteria for competition and manage athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

Model performance criteria and required movements for student performance in sport.

Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development, including time, resources, and materials to support department goals.

Establish and maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport and verify each athlete’s eligibility.

Use varied instructional and coaching techniques to meet student needs and improve abilities in each sport.

Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Collaborate with school staff to plan instructional goals to support overall educational development of student athletics.

Use evaluative findings to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure continuous renewal responsive to student needs.

Athletic Events Manage district athletic operations including directing ticket sales, employing game officials, and preparing facilities.

Prepare and approve interscholastic game schedules.

Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events; drive bus to transport students to out-of-district competition.

Student Management Implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and enforce discipline per Student Code of Conduct and handbook.

Accompany and supervise student athletes during games and competitions, both at home and on out-of-town trips.

Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.

Communication Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, and teachers on vital issues.

Administration, Budget and Inventory Implement policies in athletics per federal/state/UIL/local rules; follow safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Compile, maintain, and file required reports and records.

Develop and administer a budget, ensure cost-effectiveness, and manage funds.

Oversee cleaning, repair, storage, inventory, and disposal/replacement of athletic equipment.

Coordinate use of athletic facilities by non-school groups.

Plan, organize, and oversee practices, events, and tournaments.

Community Relations Articulate the district’s mission and goals in athletics and solicit community support.

Encourage community and parent involvement and support booster clubs.

Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with district curriculum; accommodate differences in learning styles.

Present content per TEA guidelines and district policies; plan learning strategies and materials that reflect student needs.

Assess student achievement and use results to plan instructional activities.

Collaborate with special education to modify curricula per IEPs; work with staff to set instructional goals.

Supervise teacher aides/volunteers; use technology to enhance teaching; help students improve study methods.

Conduct ongoing assessment of achievement; oversee extracurricular activities as assigned; be a positive role model.

Establish a conducive classroom environment; manage behavior per Student Code of Conduct; protect students and equipment.

Participate in conferences with parents and staff; maintain professional relationships; comply with regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities Assign and oversee the work of student athletic assistants.

Salary and Benefits Salary:

$73,761 to $96,637 per year.
