Job Description:

The SUNY System Administration Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development (ORIED) seeks a Student Assistant. The Student Assistant will report to the Director of Research Data Strategy in ORIED, and will provide operational support for SUNY Research Connect, SUNY's Research Information Management System (RIMS). The assistantship is only open to currently enrolled SUNY students. Graduate and doctoral students are encouraged to apply, and we strongly encourage first-generation college students to apply.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Address user support questions and issues:

Log, categorize, and track support requests to ensure timely resolution and accurate documentation of issues. Respond to researcher and campus administrator inquiries by providing first-level technical troubleshooting and guidance. Escalate complex or unresolved issues to supervisor or additional support teams following established procedures.

Support ongoing process improvement:

Conduct quality control checks on tickets, documentation, and completed tasks to ensure consistency and accuracy. Identify recurring issues and propose process improvements to enhance service efficiency and user experience. Assist with creating or updating user guides, and standard operating procedures.

Gather additional equipment and facilities according to ORIED processes Learn skills in data management and research communications Participate in meetings with ORIED staff, campuses, and other key stakeholders Requirements:

Required:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms) Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Basic research and data management skills Ability to meet deadlines while balancing multiple priorities Current enrollment as a SUNY student Ability to work in person at SUNY System Administration in Albany, NY Preferred:

A 3.0 or better GPA Upper-level or graduate/PhD student Ability to work at least three days per week

Additional Information:

Time and Salary: The assistantship is for the summer of 2026, with a possibility to extend into the fall semester of 2026. This position is for up to 29 hours a week between 10 AM and 4 PM, Monday through Thursday. The rate of pay is $16 per hour for undergraduate students, $18 per hour for graduate students, and $20 per hour for doctoral students.
