
Strategic Account Manager, Steel Refractory – Remote VA Territory

Ferretti Search is delighted to partner with a global leader in steel refractory to identify their next Account Manager covering a well-established Virginia steel territory. This is a remote, field-based role managing an existing book of business with meaningful upside to grow market share.
Location: Remote + ~50% travel within the Virginia territory. Candidate must be within 3 hours by land of the territory. Roanoke, VA location is ideal.
Compensation: Up to $100,000 base salary + 10% annual bonus
Additional Compensation: Company vehicle provided + all travel expenses covered

What will your day look like?
Own the Territory: Manage and grow a portfolio of steel mill accounts across the Virginia market, with primary focus on relationship health, contract performance, and expansion opportunities.
Customer-Facing Sales: Lead commercial discussions, identify customer needs, and propose solutions that improve steelmaking performance and operational efficiency.
Account Management: Monitor account status, track sales metrics, manage delivery schedules, and coordinate inventory planning to keep operations running smoothly.
Solution Selling: Translate refractory and flow control knowledge into clear value propositions. You are the front-facing commercial contact; you bring in technical support when needed.
Field Presence: Spend significant time on-site at steel mills, building relationships at every level from plant managers to floor personnel.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve refractory performance, customer efficiency, and account profitability on an ongoing basis.
On-Call Responsiveness: Be available to respond when customer issues arise. Steel mills run around the clock and your accounts will count on you.
Reporting: Maintain accurate account records, sales forecasts, and performance reporting to internal leadership.
Who are you?
Steel Industry Professional: You come from a steel mill, a refractory supplier, or a competitor in this space. You know the casting process, you understand the environment, and you can have a credible technical conversation on the plant floor.
Commercial Mindset: You know how to manage an account and how to find and close incremental business within existing relationships.
Field-Ready: You are comfortable with ~50% travel across a regional territory and thrive in a plant environment with all that comes with it, including noise, heat, and dust.
Solution-Oriented Communicator: You do not need to be the technical expert, but you need to be sharp enough to identify what a customer needs and connect the right resources to solve it.
Self-Directed: You will manage your own schedule and territory. Structure and accountability come from within.
Education: Engineering, metallurgy, or materials science background preferred. Equivalent hands-on steel industry experience will be considered in place of a degree.
