Tax Manager
The Tax Manager leads Sales & Use Tax audit defense, reverse audit, and overpayment recovery engagements for DMA clients across multiple jurisdictions. This role supports clients through multi-state audit matters by analyzing transaction data, performing tax research, preparing refund claims, and working directly with state taxing authorities to resolve issues and maximize recoveries. The Tax Manager also supports client relationships and participates in business development efforts. This role is ideal for experienced transaction tax professionals looking to expand their impact through Sales & Use Tax audit engagements, recovery efforts, and advisory services while supporting assigned client accounts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Review client records for transaction tax refund potential, credits, deficiency assessments, and procedural recommendations Prepare written reports supporting DMA's position for State taxing authorities; reviews and submits periodic status reports to clients and prepares Letters of Findings for clients Works with State tax officials to achieve maximum tax savings Participates in business development efforts Responsible for client account management on assigned clients Updates work-in-process reports Represents clients during audits and in hearings with state taxing authorities Conducts on-site inspection of client plants and operations Manages, coordinates, and reviews activities of team members Maintains excellent knowledge of state and local tax laws, regulations, and court decisions Research more complex tax issues Assist Director, National Accounts and other business development professionals in scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients Education and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, Economics, or related field 5-7 years' experience in audit or transaction tax consulting Experience researching tax questions and issues and working directly with auditors and taxing authorities Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and possess exceptional attention to detail Organizational and interpersonal skills required Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to meet travel requirements Valid driver's license required Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
