About the Company EqualAccess is partnering with a rapidly growing, mission-aligned property management firm specializing in affordable multifamily housing. With a strong commitment to resident services and regulatory excellence, this organization is expanding its compliance team to meet the needs of its evolving New York City portfolio.

Position Summary The Leasing Specialist plays a key role in supporting the property's occupancy and compliance goals by managing leasing activities in accordance with affordable housing regulations. This position is responsible for guiding prospective residents through the application process, conducting eligibility screenings, and ensuring all leasing documentation meets program compliance requirements such as Project Based Section 8, 236, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and/or Mitchell-Lama. The Leasing Specialist will work from the on-site management office in Bronx, NY, and will report to the Compliance Manager.

Responsibilities

Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from prospective tenants, case managers, agents, etc. via phone and email.

Schedule and conduct interviews with prospective tenants to assess eligibility.

Show available units and provide guided tours of the property to prospective tenants.

Coordinate with property management and maintenance teams to ensure all units being shown meet company standards.

Collaborate with Compliance Manager to ensure accurate and effective marketing of available units across platforms.

Assist applicants and waitlisted individuals in identifying and qualifying for appropriate units based on program requirements.

Prepare applicant files by completing third-party verifications, calculating income, and submitting documentation to the Compliance Manager for review and approval.

Ensure lease agreements and any applicable subsidy forms are accurate, complete, and clearly communicated to tenants.

Maintain and regularly update applicable waiting lists in accordance with program guidelines.

Track and report leasing activity—including referrals, vacancies, rejections, and unit readiness—using Yardi or other property management software.

Collaborate with internal departments to ensure a smooth and positive move-in experience for new residents.

Create and maintain organized tenant files in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support compliance, leasing and property management operations.

Requirements

Minimum 2-3 years affordable housing related experience, preferred.

High School diploma OR GED; Some college, preferred.

Bilingual skills (i.e.: Spanish or ability to use translation device) is a plus.

Must have extensive knowledge of Section 8/LIHTC and Mitchell-Lama rules and guidelines.

COS or LIHTC certification preferred.

Experience in managing multiple tasks efficiently.

Possess excellent verbal and writing skills.

Ability to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times.

Ability to interact effectively with applicants, tenants and with all levels of staff and management.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.

Yardi Voyager software experience preferred.
