Role 1 — Freelance Designer We’re seeking a Freelance Designer to collaborate with our team in leading and executing digital-focused projects. This role would be on an ongoing, retainer basis. Projects include e-commerce experiences, web/mobile apps, extending visual guidelines to new assets, and researching and applying ecommerce best practices to all designs.
As a designer at Barrel, you carry the responsibility to ideate and execute on creative and intelligent design concepts, lead by example, motivate other team members, and reach high standards of work. We are looking for someone who is a creative problem solver who combines visual design and product design, knowing how to build appealing and functional experiences.
For Barrel, design is the process of thinking, planning, and imagining products that effectively solve problems for our clients. In addition to creating compelling visuals, our design team plays a key part in crafting intuitive user experiences through wireframing, mapping user flows and navigation, and developing micro-interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
Ideate and execute on creative concepts
Create conceptual and practical designs that map back to the client’s business goals, audience, and vertical
Maintain high standards among the team and ensure only the best work is shared with the client
Confidently lead client meetings and workshops as requested
Confidently delegate tasks to and provide support for junior members of the team
Challenge clients on their requirements and advise on best practices
Take and develop briefs from CD/ACD/account team into execution
Contribute to and drive the process with both internal and client teams
Provide scoping estimates for new and ongoing client work as requested
Continually experiment with new tools and technologies, and prototype with those existing; encourage the same among the team
Provide, and often lead, useful contributions to team meetings and conversations
Provide thoughtful and constructive feedback during presentations and critiques of junior team members’ work
Skills Required:
At least 4+ years of agency experience preferred, demonstrated expertise in digital design. Product design experience is a bonus.
Solid knowledge of industry tools and understanding of designing intuitive and responsive user experiences
Strong digital and web vocabulary; able to speak confidently to clients about web platforms, how designs will function and how designs will be implemented
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines, always aware of budgets and time spent
Strong project management and organizational skills; able to confidently communicate with external teams and clients alike
Clear and concise verbal and written communication
Meticulous attention to detail in all deliverables
Foresight to anticipate challenges and proactively plan to meet deadlines
Role 2 — Director of Strategy We’re looking for a Director of Strategy to lead and elevate the strategic output across all client engagements. This role oversees a team of specialists spanning CRO, retention marketing, SEO, and GEO, ensuring that strategic recommendations are cohesive, data-informed, and connected to broader business goals of the brands we serve. You’ll understand that e-commerce is part of a larger customer journey and will guide omnichannel connectivity for CPG brands.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team of strategists across CRO, retention, SEO, and GEO
Establish and maintain strategic standards and frameworks for consistency and quality
Partner with account and project teams to translate client objectives into actionable roadmaps
Conduct strategic reviews to identify optimization opportunities and cross-channel improvements
Stay current on industry trends and best practices in e-commerce, CPG, and omnichannel retail
Contribute to new business efforts by shaping strategic approaches for pitches
Skills & Experience:
Deep understanding of e-commerce retention strategies, including email and SMS lifecycle marketing, loyalty programs, and subscription models
Familiarity with omnichannel dynamics for CPG brands and how channels interact
Ability to connect dots across channels and present a cohesive strategy
Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior stakeholders
A bias toward action and iteration with quality results
Experience in people development and coaching
7+ years in digital strategy or related fields; 3+ years in leadership
Experience working with CPG brands and a track record of managing ongoing client relationships with measurable results is a plus.
Role 3 — Project Manager We’re looking for a Project Manager to lead Shopify ecommerce projects from inception to launch, guiding design, development, and integration efforts. This role requires a strong technical understanding of Shopify, third-party integrations, and custom development approaches to guide project execution. You will identify gaps, risks, and opportunities, collaborating with engineers, designers, QA, and stakeholders to keep projects on track.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and document project plans, timelines, and milestones for Shopify builds and integrations
Collaborate with engineers and QA to establish execution strategy and tech solutions
Ensure all project requirements are defined and documented
Maintain accurate effort estimation and resource allocation
Manage scope and process change orders as needed
Act as primary liaison between clients, developers, designers, and stakeholders
Provide proactive communication on status, priorities, and risks
Maintain documentation in PM tools and ensure clear client communications
Identify and escalate risks early to prevent delays or budget overruns
Monitor progress and adjust to maintain schedules and budgets
Coordinate testing and defect resolution to support a clean launch
Balance process with flexibility to fit project complexity
Skills & Experience:
Knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem and integrations
Analytical mindset with business acumen
Ability to manage multiple clients and projects in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure
Proficiency with project management tools (Google Suite, Slack, Basecamp, JIRA, Harvest, Forecast)
3-5 years in e-commerce project management; agency experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing, or similar field
Compensation:
