Estimator Heavy Civil / Geotechnical
Hatched Recruitment Group, Westminster, CO, United States
Step into a role where estimating drives strategy—not just cost
A leading design-build contractor delivering complex geotechnical and heavy civil solutions is seeking a Senior Estimator to play a pivotal role in shaping how high-impact infrastructure projects are pursued, priced, and delivered.
This is not a traditional estimating position. You’ll work at the intersection of engineering, operations, and commercial strategy, developing cost plans for technically challenging projects where conditions are uncertain, timelines are compressed, and no two jobs are the same.
For experienced estimators looking to move beyond transactional bidding and into a strategic, high-visibility role with leadership trajectory, this opportunity offers a clear path toward preconstruction or operational leadership.
The Opportunity
You will take ownership of complex, high-value estimates, often with incomplete information, and turn them into clear, executable, and competitive cost strategies.
Working closely with engineering, project teams, and senior leadership, you will influence go/no-go decisions, bid strategy, and project execution approach—making a direct impact on business performance and project success.
This role suits someone who thrives in fast-paced, technically demanding environments and is confident making decisions where others hesitate.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Lead multiple concurrent estimates from concept through final pricing Develop cost strategies in ambiguous or evolving project conditions Perform detailed take-offs and validate subcontractor scopes for risk and completeness Build margin-aware, defensible estimates aligned with win strategy Lead internal estimate reviews and contribute to bid/no-bid decisions Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with engineering and operations to align means & methods, constructability, and risk Act as a subject matter expert across heavy civil and geotechnical scopes Mentor junior estimators and elevate estimating standards across the team Present cost strategies to senior leadership and project stakeholders Develop bid strategies balancing competitiveness and profitability Evaluate subcontractor pricing and lead scope alignment and buyout recommendations Support client engagement, site visits, and pre-bid activities Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools, processes, and data What We’re Looking For
8+ years of estimating experience within heavy civil or related construction sectors Strong knowledge of earthwork, foundations, concrete, drainage, retaining systems, or similar Proven ability to build accurate estimates with incomplete or evolving information Confident communicator able to influence decisions at multiple levels Highly analytical with strong commercial awareness and attention to detail Proficient in Excel and estimating software (experience with platforms like B2W beneficial) What Sets This Role Apart
This is an opportunity to step into a role where you are not just producing estimates—you are shaping outcomes. You’ll work on technically complex, meaningful projects that protect infrastructure and communities, while building the experience needed to progress into senior leadership roles. The environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and built around individuals who can think critically, act decisively, and deliver results under pressure.
