Artistic Director – Achill Choral Society
The Achill Choral Society is searching for an artistic director for the 2026-2027 season. We are a 65 member mixed‑voice, auditioned choir rehearsing in Orangeville, whose members and audiences come from Orangeville and the surrounding areas such as Tottenham, Shelburne, Alliston, Caledon and more. Our audiences look forward to our joyful, entertaining and varied repertoire featuring guest musicians. Our collaborative pianist works with the artistic director, often leading sectionals. We perform classic works such as Messiah, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Broadway tunes, Maritime songs and those by contemporary composers such as Hagenberg, Gjeilo, Quartel and Sirrett. Having recently celebrated our 40 th anniversary, we wish to continue our stong ties to the local and music community. The choir has a strong board, comprised of choir members who take responsibility for choir business. The successful candidate will challenge our learning and help us continue these relationships leading us into the future.
We are looking for a director who:
has training and experience with choral music (Bachelor of Music or Master’s Degree preferred)
has strong vocal and teaching skills, with some emphasis on interpretation and careful tuning.
engages, inspires, and challenges singers in a collaborative and respectful way
engages guest artists with board approval
Responsibilities include
conducting weekly rehearsals and season concerts
planning repertoire and engaging guest musicians
auditioning members
engaging and collaborating with board members including attending monthly board meetings
Compensation commensurate with qualifications.
