Editorial Coordinator - Chicago, IL - Hybrid Support a broad range of production/editorial duties for STSJournals (collectively, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Annalsof Thoracic Surgery Short Reports). Handle various functions,including manuscript intake, preparing accepted articles fortransmittal, managing the article Continuing Medical Education(CME) activities process, coordinating digital media efforts withvarious stakeholders, and fielding general inquiries about STSJournals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Screen manuscripts submitted to the online tracking systemsfor The Annals and Annals Short Reports (and/or ensure qualitycontrol) for adherence to "Information for Authors"guidelines; follow up with authors as needed.
Coordinate monthly CME activities between CME editors andpublisher, including final review of posted activities andgenerating usage reports.
Prepare accepted articles for transmittal and catalogarticles in production.
Coordinate Digital Media efforts, including monthlyillustrations, video abstracts, and Editors’ Choice articlefeatures. Manage communications with relevant staff, vendors,and/or editors.
Work directly with the STS Journals Production Manager toreview PDF proofs of monthly issues and assist with journalsocial media efforts.
Assist in coordinating meetings as needed.
Assist with the peer review process, production, lineupreview, and online manuscript tracking system management.
Respond to general email and phone inquiries.
In collaboration with Director of Clinical Publications,update as needed procedures and guidelines for routineeditorial staff functions.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Experience and Skills Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a relateddiscipline.
Two+ years’ work experience, preferably in an association ormedical publishing environment, and/or relevant training orcoursework.
An equivalent combination of education, training, andexperience is also considered.
Required Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Experience with Editorial Manager manuscript submission andpeer-review system, or similar (e.g., ScholarOne,eJournalPress, etc.).
Excellent organizational, planning, and follow-throughcapabilities; attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and manage several projectssimultaneously
Ability to develop and maintain positive workingrelationships with co-workers, volunteer leaders, otherorganizations, and industry contacts; tact, diplomacy, andgood judgment
Positive attitude in the workplace
Flexibility and adaptability to changing daily activities andschedules
Ability to travel, as necessary

The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $59,000 annually and is anon-exempt position. Actual compensation will be dependent on acandidate's relevant experience, skills, training,certifications/licenses and qualifications.
