The AVP, CRE Underwriter will partner with Relationship Managers, providing high-quality underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio management support across a CRE portfolio that includes multifamily, mixed-use, retail, and other income-producing properties.. Client Details Regional bank located on Queens/Long Island border. Description Deal Underwriting & Credit Analysis Underwrite new and existing income-producing CRE loans, including acquisitions, refinances, and renewals. Analyze property-level cash flow, rent rolls, operating statements, borrower financials, guarantor strength, and global cash flow. Prepare detailed credit approval packages/memos, including transaction overview, credit rationale, risk assessment, and mitigants. Perform sensitivity analyses on DSCR, LTV, vacancy, and other key metrics to evaluate downside risk. Assess collateral quality, property conditions, market dynamics, and sponsor experience. Portfolio & Risk Management Support ongoing monitoring of an assigned CRE credit portfolio, including annual reviews, covenant tracking, and interim surveillance. Identify emerging risks within the portfolio and recommend proactive actions where appropriate. Assist in managing maturing loans, renewals, and modifications, ensuring adherence to internal credit standards and regulatory expectations. Maintain accurate and timely credit files, documentation, and risk ratings. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management Partner closely with Relationship Managers and loan officers throughout the deal lifecycle to structure transactions that balance client needs and risk appetite. Present credit analyses and recommendations to credit officers and senior management; respond to questions and information requests. Work with internal partners (Loan Operations, Appraisal, Legal, Compliance, etc.) to facilitate smooth and timely closings. Support responses to internal audit and regulatory examinations as they relate to CRE underwriting and portfolio quality. Process, Policy & Continuous Improvement Ensure that all underwriting and credit decisions comply with bank policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines. Contribute to ongoing refinement of underwriting standards, models, and templates. Stay current on market trends in commercial real estate, interest rates, cap rates, and local submarkets. Profile Qualifications Experience: Typically 5+ years of commercial real estate credit/underwriting experience within a bank or similar lending institution. Background: Strong foundation in CRE lending, with exposure to multifamily and other income-producing property types (mixed-use, retail, office, etc.). Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial spreading, cash flow modeling, and ratio analysis Strong understanding of DSCR, LTV, LTC, debt yield, and other CRE metrics Solid Excel skills; experience with credit spreading or underwriting systems a plus Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics, or related field required; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CCIM, real estate finance coursework) a plus. Knowledge Base: Familiarity with regulatory expectations for CRE concentrations and prudent credit risk management. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate credit rationale and risk assessments.
