CoNEXTions Outreach Specialist\nAbout the Role\nThe CoNEXTions Street Outreach Program supports youth ages 12-21 who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness, abuse, trafficking, or exploitation. Outreach Specialists meet youth where they are—in the community, on the street, or in our drop‑in center—offering safety, resources, and ongoing support.

For our program to find success, we believe in meeting youth where they are. Street Outreach Specialists go out on the streets of our Cape Girardeau community to areas where youth frequently congregate, seek shelter, etc., and provide youth who are in need with a variety of resources: basic need items, community resource information, as well as just a safe person who is not asking or requiring anything in return for any services/items provided.

For any youth who wants or needs more assistance and support, a Street Outreach Specialist will work alongside that youth on a regular basis, providing the necessary support, resources, etc. to help achieve the goals the youth wants to attain.

The work is grounded in trauma‑informed care and emphasizes trust, collaboration, and empowerment.

What You'll Do

Build positive, professional relationships with youth in the community

Conduct street outreach and identify youth who may need support

Provide basic‑needs items, information, and a safe point of contact

Help youth with life skills, housing, education, employment support, and other support services

Complete assessments, documentation, case plans, and progress notes

Support drop‑in center services and group activities

Provide transportation for clients as needed (agency or personal vehicle)

Collaborate with internal programs and community partners

Participate in required training and meetings

Identify individuals who may benefit from other agency services or other community services and make appropriate referrals to assist individuals in accessing those services and activities plus leadership skills with program participants

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma/GED/HSE

Valid driver's license (MO Class E or IL Class D), auto insurance, and acceptable driving record

Reliable personal transportation

Additionally, the Hall Director will advise Residence Hall Association representatives, develop and oversee retention initiatives, and provide on‑call coverage for the campus. Specific opportunities include working with Fraternity and Sorority chapters living within the residence halls. We endeavor to provide a residential experience that supports student success while recognizing the unique role of college students as future leaders in our society and community. In support of this role, our residential programs and services enhance the development of college students by integrating classroom and co‑curricular educational experiences. We recognize students as members who each possess individual needs and goals. To support students' needs and goals, we foster opportunities for personal development through individualized interactions between students, staff, and family members.

Primary Responsibilities

Supervise 7-17 undergraduate Student Staff Members

Coordinate the development and evaluation of student staff

Assist with the coordination of student staff selection and training

Develop an inclusive, academically supportive community of 250-400 students

Create intentional efforts to interact with students and provide opportunities for student growth and development

Advise Residence Hall Association representatives for halls

Adjudicate violations of policies and procedures

Manage hall facilities, budget, occupancy, and other planning and administrative tasks

Assist staff in assessing student needs and provide educational and social programs to effectively meet those needs

Participate in mediations, crisis management, and emergency response on a rotating basis for incidents occurring in the halls across campus

Initiate and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, family members, and external constituents with a variety of experiences

Serve as a University spokesperson at campus events

Assist with camps/conferences and/or summer school operations

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (Spring 2026 graduates will be considered); master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling is a plus

Experience as a hall supervisor (ex., as a senior RA, graduate Hall Director, or similar position), in a campus leadership position, or equivalent experience

Demonstrated understanding of and a strong commitment to the development of students and residence hall communities

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and take initiative beyond general job expectations

Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Demonstrated innovative approaches in problem‑solving

Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions

Demonstrated ability to develop communities through a variety of programmatic efforts

Experience working with the Microsoft Office suite or other computer programs

Experience working with or advising student groups/organizations or working with academic support initiatives

Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
