Alongside the Ohio Senate, it forms the legislative branch of the Ohio state government and works alongside the Governor of Ohio to create laws and establish a state budget. Legislative authority and responsibilities of the Ohio House of Representatives include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes. Job Description Summary of Position: Provides communications assistance to staff of the House Minority Caucus. Works closely with and under the direction of the Minority Director of Communications. Essential functions include: Prepares written materials including press releases, weekly columns, speeches and articles Assists Members of the House Minority Caucus with press inquiries Assists Minority Director of Communications in coordinating press conferences Takes photographs of official legislative events in absence of Constituent Outreach Coordinator Monitors issues in the press Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Minority Director of Communications or Minority Leadership Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Understands news media sources and procedures Understands legislative process and terminology Understands state government Experience with Microsoft Office Communicates effectively both orally and in writing Multitasks and prioritizes work to meet deadlines Ensures confidentiality while handling politically sensitive work Understands how to use professional photographic equipment Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree One year of relevant work experience Benefits We provide a variety of quality, competitive benefits to eligible full-time and part-time employees.
