
Contemporary Worship Leader

We are seeking a passionate and spiritually grounded Contemporary Worship Leader to lead our Celebration service. This person will provide musical, spiritual, and organizational leadership—shaping worship experiences that are engaging, theologically rooted, and aligned with the life of the church.
This is not just a “song leader” role—you’ll be building a team, cultivating a culture, and helping people connect with God in meaningful ways.
Primary Responsibilities 1. Worship Planning & Leadership Plan, coordinate, and lead contemporary worship services in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and Minister of Music and Worship Select music appropriate to the liturgical season, sermon themes, and congregational context Lead worship vocally and instrumentally during services and special events Provide leadership for special services (e.g., Christmas, Easter, Holy Week, and other church-wide worship opportunities)
2. Band & Volunteer Development Recruit, train, schedule, and nurture members of the Celebration praise band and worship team Develop musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders spiritually and musically Foster a culture of teamwork, encouragement, and excellence Lead weekly rehearsals to ensure preparedness for worship
3. Worship Production & Technical Oversight Provide coordination and oversight for all technical aspects of contemporary worship, including: Sound Video and streaming Slide presentation (e.g., ProPresenter) Lighting and stage setup Recruit and train volunteers for A/V roles Coordinate stage setup, teardown, and organization for rehearsals and services Assist in maintaining musical instruments and sound equipment
4. Communication & Administration Communicate effectively with worship team members, staff, and volunteers Provide necessary worship details (songs, order, etc.) for bulletins and media in a timely manner Coordinate scheduling and ensure all participants are informed and prepared Stay current with trends and resources in contemporary worship music and ministry
5. Broader Ministry Participation Support worship and music needs across church ministries when needed (e.g., VBS, mission trips, special events) Contribute to the overall vision and mission of the church Collaborate with staff to ensure worship aligns with the church’s discipleship goals
Working Conditions Regular presence required on Sunday mornings and for one weekly rehearsal Additional time required for special services and seasonal events Work may occur both on-site and off-site Vacation: Up to 3 Sundays per year (excluding major liturgical celebrations), plus sick leave as outlined in church policy. Responsible for working with Worship minister and Senior Pastor to find suitable substitute leadership for vacation days, personal days, or sick days.
Qualifications & Requirements Spiritual & Personal Demonstrates a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through spiritual disciplines and worship participation Commitment to serving Christ through the Church Willingness to support and work within United Methodist theology and practice
Skills & Experience Strong proficiency in vocal and/or instrumental leadership Experience leading contemporary worship in a church or similar setting Ability to recruit, train, and lead volunteers effectively Strong communication and organizational skills Familiarity with current trends in contemporary worship music / sacred music Working knowledge (or willingness to learn) A/V systems and worship technology
Additional Requirements Completion of Safe Sanctuary Training and background check Understanding of, or willingness to learn, legal music use and licensing
