Mechanical Designer
Position Type: Direct Hire
Position Location: Houston, TX
Position Salary: Open to Market (Depending on Experience)
Responsibilities:
Create and update 3D models and 2D drawings for sheet metal and structural components using Autodesk Inventor (3D) and AutoCAD (2D).
Work closely with Mechanical Engineers to implement design changes, ECNs, redlines, and drawing updates.
Produce complete manufacturing packages, including:
Flat patterns / DXFs for laser
Bend drawings
Assembly and welding drawings
BOMs and cut lists (as required)
Support the shop floor by answering drawing questions, checking fit-up, and helping resolve fabrication issues.
Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to ensure drawings match real production needs and standards.
Maintain organized CAD files, drawing revisions, and release documentation (per internal process).
Assist with standardization: templates, title blocks, drawing notes, and repeatable design libraries.
Requirements:
High School Diploma / GED a minimum, higher education is a plus
2+ years experience as a Mechanical Designer / CAD Designer / Drafter (manufacturing environment preferred).
Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor (Sheet Metal) and AutoCAD (2D).
Strong understanding of manufacturing drawings (dimensions, tolerances; GD&T basics helpful) and fabrication workflow.
Ability to read and interpret engineer markups and convert them into clean released drawings.
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Experience with E-Houses (PCMs), switchgear enclosures, skids, frames, or industrial sheet metal assemblies is a plus
Experience with laser cutting, press brake forming, welding, and assembly drawings is a plus
Familiarity with nesting workflow / DXF export best practices.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
