JFSA is hiring a Director of Development to take its fundraising program to the next level and build a best-in-class development shop. With a solid base of donors, strong philanthropic potential in the community, and the full support of engaged staff and lay leadership, this is a ground-floor opportunity to expand the culture of philanthropy in San Antonio. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director will lead all aspects of JFSA’s $2M fundraising strategy, cultivate major donor relationships, and position the Federation for long-term success, including a potential future capital campaign. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic partner and a hands-on builder who is energized to shape the future of development at JFSA and leave a lasting impact on the Jewish community.
Key Responsibilities Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, encompassing annual and supplemental giving, corporate support, capital campaigns, legacy giving and grants
Cultivate and steward a portfolio of major donors; lead key solicitations and donor engagement efforts
Create and adhere to the development budget
Supervise and inspire a dynamic development team and volunteers
Supervise the contract grant writer in researching and identifying grant opportunities, preparing and submitting
applications, and managing the receipt and expenditure of awarded grants
Ensure effective use and oversight of the CRM donor database; maintain accurate records and analytics
Collaborate with the marketing team on donor communications and represent the Federation at community and fundraising events
Monitor and evaluate development goals and ensure measurable outcomes aligned with the Federation’s mission
Represent the Federation at community-wide and organizational fundraising events
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
Minimum 5 years in resource development, including 3+ years in a senior leadership role
Proven success in major gift solicitation and strategic fundraising
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to inspire and engage
Demonstrated experience leading high-performing teams and managing complex projects with measurable outcomes
Skilled at managing professional and volunteer relationships
Knowledge of or interest in learning about Jewish values, traditions, Israel, and the Jewish lifecycle
Familiarity with donor databases, fundraising technology, and budget management
Grant writing experience preferred
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
