Kansas City, MO | 8-Month Contract-to-Hire
We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Civil Designer to support a variety of civil engineering projects. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow their design career while working alongside experienced engineers and project teams in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of civil projects including:
- Storm drainage & stormwater management systems
- Water & sanitary sewer utilities
- Site development, roadways, airports, and facilities
- Erosion & sediment control and traffic control systems
- Support drawing production, including layout, calculations, and design refinement
- Develop and revise designs based on sketches, mark-ups, and project needs
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, and topographical/geological data
- Apply design codes, standards, and specifications
- Perform volume calculations for excavation and site grading
- Ensure design deliverables meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements
- Maintain organized project documentation and drawing revisions
✅ Qualifications
- Education & Experience (one of the following required): Bachelor’s degree in Drafting Technology or related field + 2 years of experience
- Associate degree + 3 years of experience
- OR 4+ years of progressive detailing/design experience
- Basic proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Excel
- Foundational knowledge of civil design principles, calculations, and systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
