Industry Employment Specialist for Sociology Lehman College, a four‑year Hispanic‑Serving Institution in the Bronx, ranks among the top five universities in the nation for fostering social mobility. Position Details Reporting to the Chair of the Sociology Department in the School of Natural and Social Sciences and working with the Associate Provost for Experiential Learning and Executive Director for Industry Partnerships, the Industry Employment Specialist for Sociology will identify career opportunities and grow hiring pipelines for Lehman Sociology students and graduates by engaging with employers to define workforce needs, identify hiring challenges and opportunities, and specify skills and proficiencies needed to fill available roles.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain partnerships with employers to secure paid internships, clinical placements, and full‑time employment opportunities for students in targeted majors.

Cultivate and expand employer relationships to support ongoing student recruitment and workforce pipeline development.

Share employment opportunities with students and, when appropriate, refer qualified candidates to employers for specific roles.

Collaborate with CUNY Beyond leadership, industry specialists, and Lehman College career offices to maximize employer engagement and respond to student and employer needs.

Participate in CUNY‑wide Career in Education (CIE) meetings, trainings, and events to support system‑wide workforce initiatives.

Support the creation of clear pathways to paid internships and full‑time employment in Sociology for recent graduates.

Communicate employer and labor‑market insights with faculty, advisors, and campus stakeholders to promote alignment with in‑demand skills.

Participate fully in Lehman’s CUNY Beyond initiative, including attending meetings and meeting required reporting deadlines.

Accurately enter, maintain, analyze, and report program data and outcome metrics using systems such as Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, and the full Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.

Plan, coordinate, and evaluate virtual workshops and events using Zoom or similar platforms, including managing registration, engaging participants, and analyzing attendance and outcome data.

Qualifications • Bachelor's degree and four years’ related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in career services, economic or workforce development, or relationship management.

Experience with community and business outreach, ideally in implementing talent acquisition, outreach strategies, and business development.

Understanding of business and recruitment and hiring practices in key sectors of the NYC economy applicable to Sociology graduates.

Command of Microsoft Suite and Zoom.

Comfort with technology to track programs and projects.

CUNY Title Overview Supports an academic internship program providing career development and professional work experience: acts as liaison between the College and employer sponsors, monitors the success of students’ internship experiences, supervises student internships, assures adherence to related College and governmental policies and regulations, creates and conducts orientation sessions and workshops for students in the internship program, coordinates applications, interviews, and placement as part of overall student outreach, provides faculty orientation and development related to internship programs, implements and evaluates competencies and other success factors, and performs related duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits Salary: $86,741. CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9.54% with an additional increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC‑CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
