Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Administrative (50%)
Develops and maintains relationships with regional employers to identify employment opportunities.
Works in conjunction with Marketing to design and implement marketing strategies to identify, attract and involve students, employers, and faculty to integrate academic studies with work experience.
Responsible for the effective development and coordination of employer visits to the college and ensuring collaboration with appropriate departments across the institution.
Collaborate with Academic Divisions and the Workforce & Community Development Division to identify critical employer needs and provide solutions.
Develops a working understanding of the department’s Career Management software in order to utilize the software’s functions.
Coordinates additional activities including site visits, fairs and other special programming for the department.
Serves on college committees and assist in planning and implementing special projects that support student success.
Maintains membership and involvement in related professional organizations to enhance professional development.
Involvement in annual strategic planning to meet requirements for year-round responsibilities as they relate to the department.
Provides support to Center for Career Success and staff as needed, in the areas of general student advisement, employer outreach and departmental coordination.
Responsible for tracking, monitoring and reporting of employer and student engagement activities and initiatives.
Supports students with Credit for Prior Learning portfolios and submissions.
Other duties as assigned by the Director or designee.
Responsible for identifying, developing and maintaining internship, co‑op, and all other EL activities, appropriate to Washtenaw Community College majors and training programs, while also maintaining positive relationships with employers.
Develops an effective recruitment strategy and assists students interested in completing an Internship/Cooperative Experience.
Works with academics, employers and business partners to build pipelines to employment, based on current employer needs.
Provides leadership for both pre‑apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs at the college in response to industry needs for growing the talent pipeline within the Greater Ann Arbor region.
Ensures both pre‑apprenticeship and/or apprenticeship programs meet the necessary standards for recognition and registration with the U.S. Department of Labor and other entities.
Collaborates with a wide variety of business, industry, governmental, social service, and community organizations to recruit potential apprentices.
Oversees the development and facilitation of information and orientation sessions that inform apprentices about the details and expectations of specific pre‑apprenticeships and apprenticeships.
Identify, schedule and work with Academic Deans to assign faculty to provide instruction and offer academic support to apprentices.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of management experience required, including full‑time staff supervision and budget management.
Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, demonstrate initiative and be student success focused.
Experience in presenting workshops and/or working with students in an academic setting highly desirable.
Experience in higher education a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to meet and work with community college students with identified additional needs.
Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer strategies, job market trends, and occupational information sources.
Ability to research and develop knowledge of career development trends, markets, and issues.
Ability to design and deliver workshops.
