Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District, Johnsburg, IL, United States
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences or other graduate Library degree.
Minimum 4-5 years library experience with minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills
Ability to exercise judgement and discretion when dealing with public or staff (public relations procedures).
Thorough knowledge of library reference sources, print and online
Knowledge of cataloging and classification.
Knowledge of children’s, young adult and adult literature.
Working knowledge of budgetary and accounting processes of the Library.
Knowledge of systems and library automation including Homeschool Resources.
Knowledge of current trends and developments in the library field.
Considerable knowledge of management principles and practices.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships and environment.
Commitment to public service.
Essential Functions Administer the Library in accordance with the policies and direction from the Library Board. Perform professional and administrative duties in planning, developing, implementing and directing the Public Library services for the Johnsburg Public Library. These duties include:
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all Library Patrons
Budget Preparation as well as expenditure approvals as directed by the Library Board and Accountant
Administers gifts – state and federal monies.
Personnel: The Library Director will train, supervise/manage, schedule, evaluate and review all employees. The director will oversee job flow and functions, as well as delegation of specific areas to qualified staff.
Oversee the care and maintenance of the library building, equipment, and grounds.
Review and approve selection of all materials for purchase.
Participate in professional meetings, classes conferences and workshops local and on occasion nationally.
Participate in organizational management through the committee process.
Monthly preparation of Board Meetings.
Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit and move between work areas for extended periods along with frequent lifting of materials weighing up to 25 pounds as well as push/pull items of 40 pounds or higher while utilizing a cart. Ability to bend, stoop, reach high/low shelves and use computers frequently. Essential skills include clear and audible communication. Sensory capabilities include strong vision for reading and clear hearing/speaking for communication.
