Job Description The Director of Family & Community Engagement supports the mission of the Kearney Family YMCA by providing leadership for the full scope of family engagement, including Family Center operations, family programs, special events, member experience initiatives, and community engagement opportunities. Reporting to the Senior Director of Youth Programs, this role ensures operational excellence, staff development, and high‑quality family and community experiences across multiple platforms. The Director supervises Family Center staff and serves as an active member of the YMCA Leadership Team, fostering cross‑department collaboration to drive innovation, safety, belonging, and community impact.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in or equivalent, preferred.
Two or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
Ability to fulfill and applicable licensing and regulatory requirements.
Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.
Preference for knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
Essential Functions
Provides strategic leadership for all family engagement initiatives, ensuring a cohesive, high‑quality experience across the Family Center, family programs, and cross‑department collaboration.
Develops and sustains high‑performing staff teams through onboarding, coaching, accountability systems, and ongoing reinforcement of child safety, member experience, and YMCA standards.
Leads program marketing and member communication for family engagement areas, ensuring clear, consistent messaging that strengthens participation and belonging.
Ensures the Family Center environment is safe, welcoming, and well‑maintained through regular inspections and coordination with the Facility Director.
Designs and delivers member engagement experiences with emphasis on belonging, connection, and family engagement.
Leads YMCA special events in collaboration with department directors and volunteers, with responsibility for sponsorships, logistics, and outcome reporting.
Represents the YMCA in community engagement efforts, strengthening partnerships and visibility.
Ensures compliance with state and local regulations, YMCA policies, and child abuse prevention standards.
Manages department and event budgets, ensuring resources support strategic priorities and financial sustainability.
Leads staff participation in the Annual Campaign and supports philanthropic engagement.
Ensures high‑quality, mission‑aligned family programs through innovative development, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
Promotes department growth through program enhancements, participation growth, new initiatives, and strategic partnerships.
Serves as a member of the leadership team, including participation in Director‑on‑Duty rotation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
