Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating event planning, overseeing front-line operations, and providing leadership and direction to patrons and vendors. Summary

The Town of Berthoud Recreation Department hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, including the Berthoud Market, Father/Daughter Dance, craft fairs, the Town’s July 3rd celebration, and more. This position is responsible for coordinating event planning, overseeing front-line operations, and providing leadership and direction to patrons and vendors.

The ideal candidate is creative and possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as experience in marketing and special event management. This position averages 25 hours per week and requires flexibility throughout the year. Availability on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., June through September, is required to support the Berthoud Market.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Find local vendors to attend events and maintain a relationship with them. Set up, tear down, and care for each special event. Schedule vendors and create maps. Enforce rules, including vendor compliance with government, health, and agricultural laws. Attend regular staff meetings and assist the Recreation Director in approving vendors. Resolves administrative concerns by applying appropriate policies and procedures through positive interaction and involvement with the operations team. Watch for safety hazards or access concerns for customers and vendors. Be timely and ensure event operations are set up before the events begin. Have flexibility and be able to work special events, specifically the Saturday’s from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm for the Berthoud market from June to September.

Ability to work under stressful situations; ability to stay calm; have excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to work evenings, occasional nights, split shifts, and weekends. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with participants and create a welcoming and inclusive environment. Work directly with Marketing staff to ensure marketing materials, website, and social media sites are updated with accurate information for special events. Ability to work with facilities and parks staff to ensure facilities and setups are completed in a timely manner.

Education

high school diploma or GED is required. 1-2 years of experience in event management and customer service required. Experience with special events and markets required.

Preferred

Work Experience:

Passion for local special events and markets . Knowledge of community food systems. (i.e. Cottage licenses, food truck requirements) Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and general office equipment such as computers, copiers, fax, and telephone.

Required

Certificates and Licenses:

Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire required. A valid Colorado Driver’s License is required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment required

Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work with moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and chemicals such as cleaning chemicals, paints, chemicals and /or similar solutions. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee may regularly travel to and from buildings to complete job responsibilities and tasks assigned. The noise level in the work environment may be loud at times with frequent interruptions and frequent contact with members of the public.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Manual dexterity enough to complete daily work such as room setups/breakdowns, cleaning, drive and operate motor vehicles and lifts, and operate other office equipment and complete paperwork.
