Description The
Golf Assistant Superintendent
supervises golf course maintenance operations at Sun Valley Resort’s Trail Creek and White Clouds golf courses and reports to the Golf Course Superintendent. The assistant superintendent ensures the course and surrounding grounds are maintained to the highest standards of playability, appearance, and safety. This position supervises agronomy practices, irrigation systems, turf care, staff management, budgeting, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations. Position begins May 15, 2026.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in developing and managing the annual maintenance budget and operating plan.
Plan and implement staffing schedules to meet quality and operational standards.
Supervise and perform daily golf course maintenance to ensure optimal playing conditions.
Supervise drainage, irrigation, and pumping systems, and manage turf, tree, and plant care programs.
Direct fertilizer, aeration, and pest management programs to maintain healthy turf and landscaping.
Supervise equipment maintenance, repair, and preventive care programs.
Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas and storage facilities.
Manage purchasing, inventory, and cost control for maintenance supplies and materials.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other safety and environmental regulations.
Train, schedule, and supervise golf maintenance staff, including mechanic.
Collaborate with Golf Professionals and resort leadership to align course conditions with operational goals and guest satisfaction.
Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, with exposure to chemicals, fertilizers, and machinery.
Assist in seasonal jobs, that may include Nordic trail maintenance or Mt. Operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Two- or four-year degree/certificate or equivalent experience in agronomy, turfgrass management, or related field preferred.
Minimum of two years of experience in supervising golf course maintenance.
Strong knowledge of turfgrass science, agronomy practices, and golf course construction methods.
Current state pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Strong fiscal management and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge of relevant environmental, safety, and employment regulations.
Engage in physical activities like standing for long periods, walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, and reaching.
Can safely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
