Packaging Lead

Position Summary The primary responsibilities of the Packaging Lead include directing job assignments and providing technical hands‑on leadership to the Packaging staff. This position is responsible for conveying a professional attitude towards employees while recognizing the responsibility to meet Packaging schedules and customer commitments. Under the direction of the Packaging Supervisor, the Packaging Lead main tasks are to:

Job Responsibilities

Oversee and maintain safety practices in accordance with safe operations and in compliance with company policies.

Act as a stepup Supervisor.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Develop employee skills.

Supervise and assist in the training of Packaging processes.

Provide training guidance and coaching to employees in a consistent and constructive manner.

Communicate shift activity to personnel and keep them informed of changes to equipment, processes, and materials.

Allocate resources to ensure minimum downtime and completion of scheduled activities in a safe and efficient manner.

Prioritize and manage the workload to ensure assignments address the objectives for the day.

Monitor the efficiency and quality of all Packaging jobs.

Monitor offloading process including watching gauges, pressurizing/ depressurizing bulk units and or by visually monitoring levels which may require the need to climb up onto tank trucks or railcars by ladder.

Perform simple maintenance on your machine to ensure it is completely functional and safe to operate.

Perform tasks assigned to operations such as quality inspections, equipment preparation, process sampling, operating equipment lines, inventory movements (physical and within company ERP system), unloading/loading product from rail cars, tanks, ISO’s, tank trucks, totes, drums, and pails.

Identify, troubleshoot, and report the following to supervisor: equipment defects or malfunctions; out of spec material or contamination; safety issues or incidents.

Complete paperwork and other minor administrative tasks carefully ensuring all information is entered correctly and clearly.

Review Packaging records for completion and accuracy.

Maintain inventory and replenishment for all Packaging supplies.

Work cooperatively across all aspects of operations to meet quality, EHS&S policies, and objectives to meet customer needs.

Perform other duties as directed by the Packaging Supervisor.

Knowledge and Skills

High School Graduate or GED desired but not required.

Work Experience

Minimum of 5 years Packaging or Petrochemical experience.

Experience in leadership and supervising.

Knowledge of and experience working with hazardous materials.

Skills and Competencies

Must be able to multitask, stay organized, detailed, and focused and show a high level of initiative.

Strong operations aptitude is desired.

Must have good communication and leadership skills.

Must be a self‑starter and willing to work in a team environment.

Ability to identify and then implement process and productivity improvements.

Ability to complete paperwork accurately and completely, understand the importance of detail and accuracy.

Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.

Good Computer skills/ERP system experience.

Must be able to read and interpret a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to use their hands and arms to handle, feel, or reach.

The team member frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

The team member is occasionally required to sit.

The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally move or manipulate drums weighing between 200600 pounds.
