Social Media Short Form Editor

Boring Stuff, Los Angeles, CA, United States

About the Role Our client is a high-profile digital media and entertainment company with a large and engaged audience across social platforms. They are looking for a creative, platform-native Short Form Editor to join their social team: someone who lives and breathes short-form content and knows instinctively what makes a video stop the scroll.

Note: This is not a long-form editing position.

The focus is entirely on short-form content across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook.

Day-to-day direction comes from the Social Media Department Lead, with occasional input from company leadership. The role spans original social content, cutdowns from long-form video, branded partnership promos, podcast clips, and event/merchandise content.

What You'll Do Editing & Content Creation

Edit, ideate, and post short-form content across TikTok, Instagram (Reels, Stories, Feed), YouTube Shorts, and Facebook — including organic content, cutdowns, and promos

Implement the client's brand voice and tone across all social content, under the direction of the Social Media Department Lead

Produce content that promotes long-form videos, branded partnerships, podcasts, live events, tours, talent appearances, and merchandise

Collaborate with the social team to identify and develop short-form-specific formats that perform

Strategy & Growth

Stay ahead of platform trends and proactively pitch ideas for incorporating them into the social content strategy

Continuously test and iterate on editing approaches and content formats; report learnings from high-performing posts back to the social team and leadership

Contribute to an evolving social strategy with the goal of driving viewer engagement and channel growth

What Our Client Is Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Media, Film/TV Studies, Communications, Advertising, Marketing, or equivalent hands‑on experience

1+ years of experience working for an established media company or brand

Deep, current knowledge of the social media landscape — what performs, what flops, and why

Familiarity with prominent creators, viral formats, and impactful brand social campaigns

Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite

Creative thinker with strong communication and collaboration skills

Ability to work at pace and adapt quickly as platforms and trends evolve

Location & Schedule Our client offers a hybrid remote/office schedule. In-office days are based in the Burbank, CA area. Schedule requires approval from the department head.

How to Apply: One Required Step We manage a high volume of applications on behalf of our client. To help identify candidates who are the right fit, we ask all applicants to complete the following short task as part of their application. Applications without a submission will not be reviewed.

The Task:

Film and edit a short-form video of yourself, 60 seconds or under, on any topic you genuinely find interesting. It can be funny, informative, a hot take, a trend, anything. The only rules:

It must be filmed and edited by you, on your own device

It must feel native to TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. It should NOT be like a vlog or talking-head interview

It must be your own original concept, not a duet, stitch, or direct recreation of an existing format

Put #noticeme in your hashtags so we know you’re paying attention.

Upload it to YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram as a public or unlisted post and paste the link into the cover letter field of your application. No need to explain your choices. You should let the video speak for itself.

We’re not looking for high production value. We’re looking for instinct: a strong hook, a clear point of view, and an understanding of what makes short-form content work.
