General Summary: The Director of Adult Education is a transformative and independent leader, committed to expanding access to education for adult learners. This role provides strategic, fiscal, and instructional leadership for both the Adult Learning Center and the Transitions to College (Links) Program, guiding high‑quality programming that supports pathways to college, career training, and family‑sustaining employment. The Director works collaboratively with college partners, community organizations, and statewide agencies to ensure strong compliance, innovative curriculum, and meaningful student outcomes. Both programs are grant funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, monitor, and manage, both DESE funded grants and annual budgets in collaboration with the college's grants office and finance department.
Write and implement RFPs and continuation grants as directed by DESE along with an annual budget to carry out the goals of the RFP, to provide detail and ensure compliance with payroll, supplies, enrollment, attendance and other funder related requirements. Create timely reports and submit required program grant materials to DESE and/or College Administration.
Provide fiscal oversight and ensure that expenditures are allowable and appropriate and that allocated funds are available throughout the fiscal year in collaboration with the MCC finance office.
Hire, supervise and evaluate administrative, teaching and advising staff. Foster collegial relationships in a collaborative team setting.
Coordinate and assist with program publicity, recruitment, and advising.
Work closely with Advisors to monitor enrollment and student outcomes, including but not limited to, EFL completion, HSE credential attainment and Postsecondary Education or Training enrollment after students exit from the program.
Monitor reports and accuracy of data input into the statewide Adult Education database (LACES, and the college database (Banner).
Support the implementation of all phases of the educator effectiveness evaluation process required by ACLS, including but not limited to: (1) Self-Assessment (2) Professional Development Planning (3) Classroom implementation of Learned Strategies (4) Ongoing observation and performance monitoring (5) Reflection.
Monitor the annual development of Mathematics and Language Arts curriculum that is aligned with the standards and benchmarks in the Massachusetts College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE).
Ensures the implementation of evidence based instructional practices including, Evidenced Based Reading Instruction (EBRI) as required by WIOA and evidence-based writing practices.
Support the implementation of a comprehensive Digital Literacy Development program in all adult education classes geared toward increasing the digital literacy and employability of students.
Ensure that all lessons incorporate student goals, are responsive to measurable assessments, monitor student progress, has context related to real-life issues of interest and concern to students, and is designed to move students toward their next instructional level, career and/or college pathway.
Attend conferences, workshops, and/or webinars sponsored by MCC, DESE, SABES, etc. to improve professionally and provide ongoing guidance to staff regarding new curriculum and performance standards, advances in technology and policy directives as they emerge.
Maintain close relationships with MassHire, the Metro South‑West Workforce Board, and other WIOA partners to ensure appropriate services for all shared customers.
Engage in collaborations with an array of other departments at MCC as well as community resources to support student's progression to post-secondary education, job training and/or employment leading to family sustaining wages.

Requirements:
Masters Degree in Education or related field
3-5 Years Experience and/or training that includes program management, teaching and/or counseling
Excellent computer, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Experience with and commitment to working in an inclusive academic setting
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual skills a plus
Supervisory experience in an academic environment
Experience teaching in an Adult Basic Education program or other recognized adult program
Experience in successful grant writing and budget management
Familiarity with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and/or Massachusetts Department of Adult and Community Learning Services
Additional Information: Salary Range:
$80,000-$85,000 annually; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Employees of Middlesex Community College are considered employees of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and receive benefits, which include:
