As a Machine Designer, you will focus primarily on the mechanical design of custom manufacturing equipment using Siemens NX, spending over 80% of your time in active 3D design. Projects include mechanical and robotic assembly cells, router fixtures, vacuum‑formed tools, and trim dies. This role works closely with program management, controls, wiring, programming, and build teams to carry designs from initial concept through customer buy‑off, release, and shipment while supporting multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.

Job Title: Machine Designer

Responsibilities

Participate in mechanical kick‑off meetings to understand project scope and responsibilities with the Program Manager and team.

Collaborate with controls designers during the electrical kick‑off when the design is 50‑60% complete.

Conduct risk assessments of projects using an Excel outline.

Engage in wiring meetings to collaborate on design requirements and provide necessary dimensions to the wiring team.

Participate in internal design reviews with the programmer and build team before final customer sign‑off.

Submit designs to customers for buy‑off, complete design release, and compile the Bill of Materials (BOM) and risk assessments.

Review and update BOM or risk assessments for any project changes before shipping.

Manage multiple projects, which can range from sole focus on large projects like edge fold tools to handling 4‑6 smaller projects or engineering changes concurrently.

Essential Skills

5+ years of experience in Machine Design or Mechanical Design, specifically in assembly cells.

Proficiency in a 3D CAD software.

Experience with engineering calculations, including force of cylinders, weights, inertia, and PSI.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Strong preference for candidates with NX experience.

Experience in the material handling or automation industry.

An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Work Environment The work environment involves starting between 6‑7 am, working up to 50 hours a week, with a schedule that includes a morning break, a 30‑minute lunch break, and an afternoon break. The role is 100 % on‑site, with remote work allowed only if responsible for weekend work. The contract is initially for 6 months with potential for extension or conversion to a direct role, depending on project load. Benefits include 6 holidays and 3 weeks of PTO.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Walker, MI.

Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
