
International Trade Compliance Manager

Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain and implement enterprise-wide trade compliance policies, procedures, and training materials, including internal customs compliance manuals
Oversee the accurate classification and compliance treatment of imported or exported parts, including tariffs, duties, country of origin, and preferential trade programs (e.g. USMCA)
Manage customs brokers and third-party trade service providers to ensure adherence to legal requirements and company standards
Ensure accuracy and completeness of import/export documentation and proper recordkeeping practices
Stay updated about and interpret changes in trade laws such as export controls
Responsible for identifying and conducting risk assessments and implementing strategies to prevent violations and mitigate potential penalties
Perform periodic audits of trade activities to identify and address compliance issues and support regulatory inquiries, audits and enforcement matters as needed
Lead weekly customs update meetings with key internal stakeholders
Train key personnel across the enterprise to ensure compliance with applicable customs laws and regulations
Team up with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Finance and other functions to ensure business decisions appropriately consider trade compliance, tariff exposure, and downstream customs impacts
Required Skills
Strong analytical skills needed to assess complex regulations and develop effective resolutions for trade-related compliance issues
Deep understanding of customs regulations, export controls, and international trade agreements
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply general rules of interpretation for classifying parts
Excellent customer service and communication skills to manage and foster relationships with customs brokers and other vendors as well as collaboration with internal teams
Ability to identify and resolve trade-related compliance issues
Detail oriented and deadline driven
Critical thinking, analytical, leadership, planning, project management, and organizational skills
Experience Level 5+ years of import/export compliance experience. Automotive experience is highly desirable.
Educational Requirement Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
Additional Experiences CertificationsLCB, CES, or CCP
Travel Requirements Experience working in the automotive manufacturing industry preferred
5-10% domestic travel to other plants
