Overview
A Researcher position is open in the new Lab of Prof. Elias. The successful candidate will actively participate in maintaining the Lab, and will be responsible for independently conducting experiments to further the Lab research projects. Activities focus on microbiological and biochemical experiments to unravel microbial communication. Activities will involve cultures, microbiological, biochemical and chemical assays to characterize the response of cultures to quorum sensing interference approaches. Key experiments will include protein purification, enzymatic and biophysical characterization, and evaluation of their effects on microbes, including in field experiments. Other work could relate to research project on the bacterial phosphate uptake system. The objective is to make significant scientific achievements and produce high impact publications.
Job Duties
60% – Carrying Out Laboratory Experiments: Independently conduct biochemical, enzymatic, biophysical and microbiological assays; design routine experiments in frame with the research project objectives on both a day‑to‑day and long‑term basis.
10% – Prepare Results for Presentation, Articles, and Grant Submissions: The results of the project will be published in major journals in the field, presented at national and international meetings, and incorporated into manuscripts, posters, oral presentations, and grant submissions.
5% – Archive Data and Materials: Archive all experiments performed and generated reagents in accordance with lab convention; maintain strains, DNA constructs, reagents, and data meticulously.
5% – Routine Laboratory Maintenance and Assist Lab Co‑Workers: Keep a ready supply of strains, solutions, chemicals, and reagents; assist other lab co‑workers.
Qualifications
Essential: B.Sc. in biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, molecular biology or equivalent; or education and experience equivalent to four years.
Preferred: Experience in biochemistry or microbiology; experience with state‑of‑the‑art protein biochemistry and structural enzymology; ability to independently design and carry out research projects rigorously and timely.
Pay and Benefits Pay Range:
$22.60 - $25.96 per hour, depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
