Job Description
TITLE: Instructional Experience Designer (Robotics & Discovery Lab)
About You
You have a sense of urgency, are conscientious, and want your work to have an impact. You enjoy being part of a strong, collaborative team and contribute to a culture where people support one another and share in collective success.
You believe students learn best when they are building, designing, and solving real problems.
You are both an engineer of experiences and a facilitator of learning—someone who can guide students from curiosity to creation.
You are comfortable working at the intersection of:
Robotics and engineering
Media and storytelling
Technology and design
You see learning not as isolated subjects, but as connected systems that come alive through hands‑on work.
About Us
Established in 1874, Tempe Elementary School District serves over 10,000 students across 21 schools. At The Immersive 9 at Arredondo, we are designing a new model of school where students engage in immersive, mastery‑based learning experiences that connect academic content to real‑world application.
The Discovery Lab is a central part of this model—an interdisciplinary space where students explore their interests through:
Robotics and engineering
Media production and storytelling
AI and emerging technologies
Design, collaboration, and problem‑solving
Learning begins with what students love and expands into rigorous, meaningful experiences that connect to authentic audiences and real‑world challenges.
This role is critical to bringing that vision to life.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (STEM, Engineering, Technology preferred)
Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
Demonstrated success in project‑based, student‑centered, or immersive learning environments
Experience with robotics, engineering, coding, or design‑based learning
Gifted Endorsement required or willingness to obtain (in accordance with Arizona requirements for serving gifted students)
Preferred Attributes
Experience designing interdisciplinary units that integrate STEM, media, and real‑world problem solving
Familiarity with robotics platforms, coding environments, or engineering design processes
Experience with tools such as 3D design, media production, or AI‑supported creation
Ability to connect student interests (gaming, building, storytelling, etc.) to rigorous learning
Commitment to continuous growth, creativity, and collaborative innovation
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions, as defined under the ADA, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all duties and responsibilities performed by the incumbents of this class.
