Recreational Services Coordinator
Under direction, plans, organizes and coordinates a variety of recreational activities at an assigned facility. May serve in a leadership capacity, directing the work of subordinates; performs related work as required. Job Characteristics: May work a varying schedule of hours, which include early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Examples of Duties: Plan, organize and conduct recreation activities including games, sports, crafts, special events, contests, tournaments and other related activities at a playground or park. Supervise the issuance, use, care and maintenance of recreation supplies and equipment. Coordinate and instruct new and original games, sports and cultural activities. May perform physical setup and takedown of tables, chairs, P. A. systems, other facility equipment. Maintain care and maintenance of assigned equipment. May work as a sports official. Maintain records and reports. Attend regular staff meetings and trainings. Performs registration and point-of-sale transactions. Typical Qualifications: Knowledge of: Methods of organizing and conducting recreational and cultural programs. First aid practices. Ability to: Plan and conduct recreation programs. Prepare accurate reports and maintain accurate records. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: Six (6) months of paid or volunteer experience working with children, and/or sports, crafts, and officiating is desired. Physical and Environmental Conditions Work is performed outdoors, on-site in a variety of recreational settings such as a golf course, sports complex, community center, day camp, and/or playground environment. Some work may be performed in an office environment and in a variety of field trip locations. Office work may require sitting for periods of time and the use of a computer keyboard and screen. Standing, walking on level and uneven/slippery surfaces, kneeling, crouching and may run. Climbing ladders and inclines, twisting, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping. Lifting and carrying supplies and program equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds or less and lift equipment and supplies weighing up to thirty (30) pounds from waist to overhead. May perform emergency CPR and first aid and may be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids of program participants. Exposure to inclement weather and depending on the area assigned may also be exposed to dust and odors. Mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Required Licenses and Certificates: Must have valid CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificates or obtain certificates prior to first day of employment. Retirement: Part-time employees are enrolled in Social Security. All part-time employees are subject to the mandatory 1.45% Medicare contribution. Criminal Background Check: Applicants will be required as a prerequisite to employment to successfully pass a criminal background check in accordance with City policy, which may include live scan and other job-related criminal background investigation. The cost of the criminal background check will be paid by the City. Physical Examination: Applicants will be required as a prerequisite to employment to successfully pass a physical and drug screening examination, the cost of which will be paid by the City. Terms of Employment: All employees classified/hired as "part-time" are employed "at will" throughout the term of their employment with the City. Therefore, the services of a part-time hourly employee can be discontinued at anytime without cause, regardless of the number of hours worked per week by the employee.
