Senior Recreation Leader

The Sr. Recreation Leader is a customer-driven position with diverse work in a collaborative environment. Additionally, this position may also include inspecting, opening and attending assigned areas and other tasks aligned to providing high level customer satisfaction through fun and engaging recreation programs and activities. The City reserves the right to adjust job responsibilities as needed to meet operational requirements, including adding, modifying, or removing functions: Provides technical and functional supervision and training to lower-level staff and staff in the same or similar class to Senior Recreation Leader. Assists in planning and conducting a variety of recreation programs and activities at recreational facilities and off-site locations. Conducts facility and grounds safety checks, opens and closes facilities and park grounds, and collects entrance fees (if applicable). Assists in preparing and facilitating community events and recreation programs. Assists with facility rentals, including setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment. Maintains cleanliness and organization of recreational facilities, storage sites, and work areas; secures equipment and materials at the close of activities. Responds to patron inquiries and provides assistance as needed. Handles general customer service and administrative tasks, such as answering phones, greeting patrons, processing transactions, data entry, copying, and filing. Uses facility reservation software to manage bookings and maintain databases. Develops and distributes program materials, including flyers, calendars, brochures, and registration forms. Manages inventory and orders materials and equipment; tracks and maintains program supplies. Operates gift shop, including processing transactions, documenting sales, and preparing bank deposits. Administers basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as necessary and trained on how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Observes and enforces safety protocols, making proper use of safety equipment as required. Trains new employees by demonstrating proper work methods and procedures. Issues and collects recreation equipment and supplies. Prepares and maintains accurate logs and records of work performed, materials used, and program participation. Leads recreation activities and community outings for programs serving adults with special needs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualification Guidelines

Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be: Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent (GED). One year of part time (20 hours per week) recreation experience at the Recreation Leader level or two years of prior related experience that allows the employee to meet the qualification standards for the Senior Recreation Leader level. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment. Must obtain American Red Cross First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate for infant, child, and adult within 30 days of employment. Special Notes

Supervision Received and Exercised: Receives direct or general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. May exercise technical and functional supervision and provide training to lower-level staff. Physical Demands: This position requires occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces while participating in recreational activities. Employees must have the ability to perform regular office duties, including using a computer, and must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed. Environmental Elements: Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors, with occasional exposure to loud noise levels, as well as windy, cold, or hot temperatures. Employees may interact with upset staff, community members, or private representatives while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. The position works a variable schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
