Catawba College (“Catawba”) seeks applicants for its Area Coordinator for Housing and Residence Life position. The Area Coordinator is pivotal in fostering a vibrant and supportive residential community at Catawba College. This live-in position oversees the day-to-day operations of assigned residential areas, providing leadership in student development, crisis management, and community building. The coordinator supervises a team of Resident Assistants (RAs) and collaborates closely with campus partners to enhance the overall student experience within the residential community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Directly supervise and facilitate Catawba Resident Assistant's recruitment, training, and.
Consistent with the Catawba Mission and Student Affairs priorities, create and implement a team development plan that includes, but is not limited to, individual meetings, weekly staff meetings, and team bonding activities.
Supervise, train, and mentor Resident Assistants (RAs) to ensure adequate support and programming within assigned residential areas.
Develop and implement community-building initiatives and residence hall programs that promote student engagement, inclusivity, and personal growth.
Serve as a conduct officer, adjudicating student conduct cases and maintaining accurate documentation by college policies.
Coordinate residence hall openings and closings, including room inspections, key distribution, and related administrative tasks.
Respond to after-hours emergencies and serve in an on-call rotation to support students and enforce policies.
Collaborate with Facilities Management for maintenance and custodial needs within residential facilities.
Assist with selecting, training, and evaluating RAs and other residence life staff.
Participate in departmental and campus-wide committees and initiatives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to build solid and healthy relationships with students.
Demonstrated problem-solving ability with high student/customer service.
A collaborative individual working with faculty and staff.
Ability to multitask and find creative solutions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field.
At least three (3) years of experience working in residence life.
