In this position

The Senior Specialist, Employee Relations & Investigations works without appreciable supervision and is responsible for resolving employee relations issues such as conflicts, disputes, and disciplinary matters with fairness and consistency in a timely manner. The role designs standard operating protocols and benchmarks for investigations, cases, and mediations to improve employee motivation and serves as a subject matter expert on employee relations. It advises leaders and consults teams on performance management, feedback mechanisms, goal setting, workplace conduct, and employee retrenchment to foster a positive work environment across the organization.

Role is 5 days onsite at the Chicago Assembly Plant.

Responsibilities

Investigate workplace issues/concerns raised through internal company channels and externally filed complaints, including harassment, retaliation, and other violations of company policy.

Exercise sound judgment in recommending outcomes for investigations.

Partner with Human Resources and/or the Labor Relations team to ensure proper handling and disposition of cases involving salaried employees and union-represented employees.

Prepare, track, and maintain appropriate investigation documentation.

Develop and implement investigation plans.

Drive timely closure of open cases/concerns.

Manage employee data and statements in a highly confidential manner.

Draft concise and clear investigation reports.

Partner cross‑functionally on investigations, performance management, and other aspects of employee relations.

Analyze case activity to determine trends and recommend proactive actions.

Serve as a strategic partner, promoting ethical and compliant behavior aligned with company policy and government regulations, ensuring fair and equal treatment for the workforce.

Demonstrate knowledge of industry best practices in employee relations subjects such as conflict resolution, dispute management, case management, and complaints.

Support Salaried Personnel activities as required, including coaching, counseling, and educating salaried employees on HR policies, performance management, processes, and programs.

Foster an effective, inclusive work environment and culture, balancing employee advocacy with stewardship of company goals and values.

Conduct other duties as necessary to align with EEO regulations and other internal and external policies and directives.

Support all Health and Safety activities as required.

Maintain flexible schedule availability to allow investigations on any shift.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related discipline (or equivalent work experience).

Minimum 5 years of experience conducting investigations, including interviewing, dispositioning, and overall case management.

Minimum 2 years of experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to work a flexible schedule that may vary week to week, including nights and some weekends.

Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related discipline (or equivalent work experience).

2 or more years of generalist human resources experience.

2 or more years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.

2 years or more of experience working with the UAW or another labor union.

Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP).

Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP).

Work Requirements Occasional lifting (up to one‑third of the time) of no more than 10 pounds, with primarily seated work and minimal stooping, standing, climbing, or walking. Work is performed in a low‑to‑moderate noise environment typical of office or classroom equipment.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $96,720 to $162,120. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate’s skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
