SSS Ambassador

Job Purpose/Description The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Student Ambassador serves as a key representative for the TRIO SSS Department of Education-funded project. The primary purpose of the role is to support students who are first‑generation, low‑income backgrounds, and/or have a disability. Ambassadors serve as the first point of contact in the TRIO SSS lounge, building community and helping students navigate campus culture and support services. Under the direction of the Director and professional staff, Ambassadors help foster a climate that values the social and cultural capital of eligible students.

Job Duties

Lounge Management: Create a welcoming, student‑centered environment and ensure the common space is clean, stocked, and promotes student engagement.

Peer Mentorship: Serve as a peer mentor to help students develop effective academic skills and practices.

Resource Navigation: Facilitate student connections to various campus and community resources.

Programming Support: Support cohort‑building activities and participate in scheduled training sessions and staff meetings.

Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate student files, submit documentation in a timely manner, and ensure the confidentiality of protected information.

Advocacy: Assist professional staff in addressing institutional and overall barriers.

Required Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in the TRIO SSS program.

Academic Standing: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, in good academic standing, and meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Enrollment: Registered for a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester with a timely degree completion plan.

Soft Skills: Demonstrated dependability, self‑motivation, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Interpersonal Values: A genuine concern for the well‑being of others and a commitment to maintaining helping relationships.

Demonstrated ability to work with the populations SSS serves and the ability to articulate CSS values and SSS project goals.

Preferred Qualifications

Mentorship Experience: Previous experience in tutoring, coaching, or mentoring roles.

Shared Experience: A background that includes overcoming barriers similar to TRIO participants.
