
Education and Public Outreach Coordinator

The Education and Public Outreach Coordinator shall report administratively to the Executive Director of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintains a deep and broad understanding of the region encompassed by southeastern New Mexico, its prehistory, history and modern influences on society.
Create and execute educational tours, activities, workshops, and events for schools, families, and diverse groups.
Schedules, plans and implements on-site public programs and tours of the museum and current special exhibits for school groups, special interest groups, adult groups, and the general public.
Develop educational and public programs, in partnership with storytellers, historians, authors, artists, etc., subsisting of lectures, hands‑on workshops, gatherings, activities, and events based on current exhibitions, particular themes, heritage months, community interests, or festivals.
Creates educational content, including articles and lesson plans, for the weekly e-newsletter and website.
Builds, maintains and promotes the museum traveling trunk program.
Manage scheduling for tours, oversee volunteers, and create educational resources, such as flyers and scripts.
Cultivate relationships with schools, community organizations, and libraries to expand the museum’s impact and reach new audiences.
Attend and represent the museum at community events and meetings to maintain the museum’s commitment to community outreach in the county.
Promote upcoming programs, exhibits, and events through social media, press releases, and community outreach efforts.
Work with the office of Outreach and Engagement to maintain a robust marketing strategy for the museum and its programs.
Work with the office of Computer Services to update, redesign, and maintain the museum’s portion of the NMJC website. This includes utilizing NMJC’s web‑based software to update the museum’s calendar, event photos, exhibit and program information, and other relevant information.
Develops and maintains educational content for the museum’s permanent and traveling exhibits (as needed), including, but not limited to, iPads, touchscreens, labels and text panels.
Plans and executes LCCHF events including but not limited to: Participation in the Lea County Fair and Rodeo and Staked Plains Roundup.
Maintains the Museum volunteer program, providing supervision, training and scheduling.
Maintains and works with an Educational Committee.
Looks for ways to continually make the Museum relevant and accessible.
Participates in a process of continual personal and professional improvement.
Actively participates in the institutional goals and objectives designed to support the mission of the college.
Serves on college committees as assigned or required.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
Requirements
Associate’s degree required.
Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, education, or related field preferred.
Three (3) years of experience in museum education, education, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of New Mexico Educational Standards.
Basic knowledge of museum theory.
Skill in developing and delivering educational programs.
Skill in marketing strategies.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in graphic design and website maintenance.
Ability to work on multiple tasks at once.
Strong organizational, planning and research skills.
Ability to lift 25lb.
