Director of Finance and Operations
Position Overview
A mission-driven, independent school is seeking an experienced and strategic
Director of Finance and Operations (AD)
to serve as a key member of the leadership team. This role provides financial stewardship and operational oversight to ensure the long-term sustainability, fiscal health, and daily effectiveness of the school. The Director partners closely with senior leadership to support academic excellence and the institution’s values.
This role is located on a stunning campus of buildings on the water with immaculately maintained grounds with a positive, engaged community.

Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy
Develop, manage, and monitor annual operating and capital budgets
Oversee accounting, payroll, cash flow, and financial reporting processes
Prepare financial analyses, forecasts, and reports for leadership and governance
Ensure compliance with all financial, legal, and regulatory requirements
Manage audits, tax filings, and relationships with external financial partners
Operations & Facilities Management
Oversee day-to-day non-academic operations, including facilities, maintenance, and safety
Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and procurement processes
Ensure effective risk management, insurance coverage, and compliance protocols
Support long-range planning related to facilities, enrollment growth, and capital needs
Human Resources & Administrative Oversight
Oversee HR-related processes including staffing, benefits administration, and payroll coordination
Support hiring, onboarding, and policy compliance in collaboration with school leadership
Maintain employee handbooks, operational policies, and procedures
Leadership & Collaboration
Serve as a trusted advisor to school leadership and governance bodies
Collaborate closely with academic leaders to align financial and operational decisions with the school’s mission
Communicate clearly and effectively with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field (required); advanced degree or CPA preferred
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in financial and operational leadership
Experience in an independent, faith-based, or nonprofit educational environment strongly preferred
Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial modeling, and operational management
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to the mission and values of the school

Incredible PTO : School vacations (4 weeks), Summer (3 weeks), Flexible summer hours
Hands-on AND Strategic Role:
This role is everything from hands on AP/AR/payroll all the way up to presenting financials to the board and offering strategic insight and leadership at the school level.
This role is 5 days on site during the 180 days of the school year, and the salary range is 85k-110k.
