Sales Engineer

Rennscot MFG, Woburn, MA, United States

About the Opportunity If you thrive at the intersection of technical depth and commercial execution — and you're energized by the challenge of turning complex customer requirements into winning proposals — this role is built for you.

As a Sales Engineer, you'll be the central connector between our customers, our sales team, and our engineering and production operations. You'll own the quoting process end to end, build lasting client relationships, and bring the technical credibility that turns conversations into contracts. We work in precision CNC machining and metal additive manufacturing, and we serve customers — including in aerospace — who depend on us to get it right, every time.

This is a high-ownership role for someone who moves fast, thinks carefully, and takes pride in the quality of every proposal that leaves their desk.

What You'll Do Quoting & Proposal Management

Own the full RFQ lifecycle from intake through quote delivery and follow-up, managing a high-volume pipeline with strong prioritization and deadline discipline.

Analyze technical drawings and specifications to develop accurate cost estimates, lead times, and risk considerations; coordinate with engineering, production, and suppliers to build complete, competitive proposals.

Identify and coordinate subcontract and vendor quotes for special processing and COTS hardware items related to estimations.

Drive standardization of quoting workflows, templates, and pricing methodologies to ensure consistent, high-quality outputs.

Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to reduce quote cycle time and error rates; build and document best practices that scale with the business.

Lead quality review practices across the proposal process to ensure accuracy and stakeholder alignment before delivery.

Technical Sales Support

Apply deep knowledge of CNC machining and additive manufacturing to develop practical, manufacturable solutions for customer requirements.

Translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Prepare and deliver presentations and capability demonstrations that showcase what we can uniquely deliver.

Collaborate with engineering and operations to solve challenges and respond to complex customer needs.

Client Engagement & Account Support

Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, managing day-to-day technical and commercial inquiries with responsiveness and professionalism.

Build strong customer relationships through clear communication, reliable follow-through, and proactive issue resolution.

Support contract review, purchase order processing, and ongoing customer satisfaction and retention.

Support the sales team in negotiating technical terms and conditions to close deals that work for both the customer and the organization.

CRM & Sales Operations

Keep accurate, up-to-date records of opportunities, quotes, and customer interactions in CRM; champion data quality and consistent usage across the team.

Track pipeline activity and generate insights to support pricing strategy, sales planning, and operational decisions.

Support business development efforts, including prospect research and lead qualification.

Market Awareness & Business Development

Identify and pursue new business opportunities with a focus on aerospace and other precision manufacturing sectors.

Stay current on industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies; bring relevant intelligence back into the organization.

Contribute to sales strategy discussions and initiatives that grow our market presence.

General

Act as the hub between sales, engineering, and operations during the quoting phase — ensuring alignment on scope, assumptions, and execution readiness before order acceptance.

Manage multiple concurrent engagements and proposals with strong attention to detail and a sense of urgency.

Support and mentor team members; connect people across functions to solve problems faster.

Operate with high ownership and accountability; always look for ways to improve systems, tools, and team effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For

We're looking for a Sales Engineer who brings both the technical depth to understand what we build and the commercial instincts to help customers understand why it matters.

This role sits at the intersection of precision manufacturing and business development — and the right person thrives in that space.

You’ll need a solid foundation in CNC machining and metal additive manufacturing, the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and the experience to translate those inputs into accurate, competitive proposals.

Equally important is your ability to build trust — with customers, with the sales team, and with the engineers and operators you’ll work alongside every day.

We're looking for someone who brings structure to a fast-moving quoting environment, owns their pipeline without being managed into it, and sees every proposal as an opportunity to win — and to raise the bar on how we do it next time.

Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (ISO 9001, AS9100, ITAR/EAR) is a plus.

Familiarity with aerospace or other precision manufacturing markets will help you hit the ground running.

Who You Are

You know manufacturing.

You have hands‑on familiarity with CNC machining and/or metal additive manufacturing processes and can speak credibly with engineers, operators, and customers alike.

You’re a natural connector.

You build relationships easily, communicate clearly across technical and non‑technical audiences, and know how to translate what a customer needs into something the shop floor can execute.

You own your work.

You don’t wait to be told what’s urgent — you manage your pipeline, meet your deadlines, and hold yourself to a high standard on every proposal that goes out the door.

You move fast and stay accurate.

High volume doesn’t rattle you. You’ve developed habits and systems that let you produce quality work consistently, even when priorities are competing.

You’re commercially minded.

You understand that a great proposal is also a sales tool — and you write, price, and present accordingly.

You’re always improving.

You look at bottlenecks as problems to solve, not facts to accept. You document what works, share it with the team, and push for better.

You’re adaptable.

Whether you’re in a customer meeting, a cross‑functional standup, or deep in a quoting spreadsheet, you adjust your approach to fit the moment.

Physical Requirements

Primarily works at an office workstation; regularly engages with customers through on‑site visits, phone, video, and email communication.

Periodically accesses the manufacturing floor to build firsthand knowledge of machining and additive manufacturing capabilities and to support customer tours and capability demonstrations.

Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on the shop floor, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel‑toed footwear during all floor visits.

Regularly operates a computer workstation for extended periods for proposal development, documentation, and customer communication.

Requires regular travel to customer sites, industry events, and trade shows in connection with business development and relationship management responsibilities.

Occasionally lifts and carries materials, samples, or trade show materials weighing up to 25 lbs.

Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
