Orlando Gay Chorus Announces Search for New Artistic Director

Orlando, FL — 3/23/2026 — The Orlando Gay Chorus (OGC), one of Central Florida’s most visible and enduring LGBTQ+ arts organizations announces its search for a new Artistic Director. This leadership role will guide the musical vision, artistic excellence, and community impact of the chorus as it enters its next chapter.

Founded in 1990, OGC has grown into a vibrant SATB Chorus known for powerful performances, inclusive community engagement, and a mission rooted in spreading harmony, love, and acceptance. The Artistic Director will play a central role in shaping the chorus’s artistic identity, selecting repertoire, leading rehearsals, collaborating with community partners, and inspiring more than 150 singing members.

We are looking for a visionary leader who believes in the transformative power of music and the importance of LGBTQ+ representation in the arts. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of an organization that has touched thousands of lives across Central Florida and beyond.

For more than three decades, the Orlando Gay Chorus has used music to uplift, educate, and build bridges throughout the community. As the organization looks ahead, it seeks an Artistic Director who will honor its legacy while bringing fresh creativity and vision.

Artistic Director –Job Description Salary: $45,000 +/- annually, commensurate with experience

Status: Part-time, 1099 Contractor (12 months)

Hours: 12-18 per week

Key Responsibilities Artistic Leadership

Foster an inclusive, affirming environment aligned with OGC’s values.

Design seasonal programming that supports the mission and engages audiences.

Develop concert themes and repertoire in collaboration with MAD, Production, and Concert Planning Committees.

Procure instrumentalists and hire workshop clinicians as needed.

Rehearsals & Singer Development

Lead weekly rehearsals and conduct biannual/rolling auditions.

Ensure chorus, soloists and ensembles are prepared.

Schedule additional rehearsals with the Council President.

Teach using gender-inclusive vocal techniques and demonstrate vocal parts.

Community Engagement & Visibility

Network with arts organizations and community groups to elevate the Chorus’s presence.

Support community engagement performances and align artistic work with outreach goals.

Collaborate with committees to expand OGC’s footprint in Central Florida and beyond.

Staff & Administrative Duties

Supervise music staff and recommend additional personnel.

Coordinate staff contracts and communicate updates through official channels.

Submit monthly written reports and present at Board meetings (minimum six per year).

Assist with grant narratives and annual budget planning.

Oversee the facilitation of music and selection of arrangements.

Professional Development

Maintain affiliations (ACDA, GALA, Chorus America)

Attend workshops, review new choral works, and stay current with professional literature.

Attend concerts of other choral organizations.

Required Qualifications

BA or advanced degree in Music (choral conducting emphasis) or 5–6 years equivalent conducting experience.

Experience with community-based choruses and singers of varied skill levels.

Ability to direct diverse musical genres and play piano at a functional level.

Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.

Proficiency with digital tools (email, word processing, online platforms).

Respect for and understanding of transgender, gender-nonconforming, and LGBTQ+ communities.
