The Printer Operator
is responsible for operating and monitoring production print equipment to ensure accurate, high-quality output in support of print and mail services. This role works within a fast-paced environment alongside USPS mailing requirements, automated inserting systems, and internal data processing teams. The operator ensures proper job setup, performance monitoring, preventive maintenance, and output integrity from print to finishing stages.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, configure, and monitor digital and continuous-form production printers including:
HP Inkjet Web Press (as applicable)
Perform print job setup, including job ticket review, file validation, material selection, and system alignment
Ensure print output meets quality control standards including alignment, image clarity, color accuracy, data integrity, barcodes, and mail-readability marks.
Load and unload print stock correctly (paper rolls, cut sheets, specialty forms) while maintaining inventory accuracy.
Monitor printer performance, logs, and job progress via smart display systems, alerting leadership to defects or interruptions.
Conduct routine equipment care and preventive maintenance, including cleaning print heads, replacing consumables (toner, ink, developer, drums, fusers), and clearing jams safely.
Maintain strict compliance with:
SOC 2 guidelines (if applicable)
PHI and PII handling policies
Physical security and audit process standards
Prepare printed materials for downstream processing into:
Automated Inserters for mail fulfillment
Finishing and packaging for postal or client distribution
Maintain production records, machine activity logs, and issue escalation reports.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
1+ years of production print experience (digital or continuous feed)
Familiarity with print workflow software such as Fiery Print Server or printer queue/RIP tools
Ability to lift and move print stock safely (up to 50 lbs)
Strong attention to detail and print quality standards
Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a production environment
Willingness to work flexible shifts, overtime, weekends, or peak mail cycles
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within print & mail operations supporting:
Remittance print environment
Postal presort or mailing compliance knowledge
Basic mechanical aptitude or prior interaction with production maintenance teams
