Job Description
Join Perkins Coie LLP's esteemed Intellectual Property group as a Lead Patent Prosecution Paralegal. We are looking for a dynamic and driven individual to facilitate U.S. and international patent prosecution matters. The ideal candidate will have a solid grasp of U.S., Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and foreign patent prosecution procedures, including the preparation and submission of patent applications and related documents using electronic filing systems. A strong ability to conduct legal research and carry out detailed investigations is essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare and file patent and design applications as well as prosecution documents via the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Center.
Prepare and file PCT applications utilizing ePCT and the USPTO Receiving Office.
Oversee Information Disclosure Statements (IDS), which entails reviewing prior art and submitting documents to the USPTO.
Engage with clients, government entities, foreign associates, and other stakeholders to gather and compile necessary information, effectively communicating findings to relevant parties.
Manage a docket system and monitor deadlines, ensuring timely follow-ups on action items and filing requirements.
Maintain client portfolios, including preparation and upkeep of status reports and prior art charts.
Stay updated on U.S. and PCT rules pertinent to Patent Prosecution.
Assist in client transfers by reviewing chain of title and preparing related documentation for the USPTO.
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED
Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and PCT patent prosecution processes and systems.
Familiarity with international procedures and coordination with foreign associates for deadline management.
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Aptitude for building strong working relationships within the firm and with clients.
Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure while adapting to client needs.
Proficient in basic computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, and Outlook.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 10 years of recent experience in a patent prosecution role within a law firm or in-house legal department.
A paralegal certificate or bachelor's degree is highly preferred.
