The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a

Special Events Senior Specialist . The position is scheduled to work 5 days, 40 hours per week; evening, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Who we are The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department showcases destination drivers in Chandler through the Chandler Center for the Arts, Chandler Museum, Downtown, Public Art, Special Events, and Vision Gallery.

Special Events Special Events is a creative division that brings together the community with events that are holiday, art, and family themed. The Special Events team designs, produces, and manages 7 city signature outdoor events, along with hosting two one-month long campaigns. Oversee the permitting of private and public property events within city limits. Oversee and administer the Sponsorship Funding Program for nonprofit organizations.

Who we are looking for Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and special events. We are looking for someone with experience in planning, organizing, and executing medium to large-scale special events; overreaching and managing permitting of events on public and/or private property, knowledge of city, county, and state licensing requirements.

Minimum qualifications

Associate's Degree in Recreation, Event Management or a related field; and

2 years of experience programming and coordinating special events; and

A valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired qualifications

Bulleted list of desired qualifications if applicable

Experience in planning, organizing, and executing special events with attendance exceeding 6,000+ guests

Experience working with Public Safety - Fire and Police, and Traffic Engineers

Experience in facilitating the permit process – application review, enforcement of policies/practices for city, county and state agencies, final permitting of events

Ability to lead committees and applicants in event application review

Strong communication and customer service

Good organizational and critical thinking skills

First Aid and CPR/AED certifications

This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
